Osmonds release new CD with original music

Jimmy Osmond intended the newest Osmond CD to be a solo album, but once he started into it, it made more sense to recruit his brothers Merrill and Jay to help create the Osmond sound on a couple of the cuts.

Then Alan and Wayne Osmond wanted in, followed by Donny Osmond, who said he’d like to be part of the music, too.

Followed by the boys was Marie Osmond — she wanted to be included and sings “Breakable” on the album.

What started as a solo project became yet another Osmond album, capping more than 50 years of the family working together and succeeding in an industry where it’s difficult to stay together.

“We’ve made money. We’ve lost money. We’ve all had our day,” Jimmy Osmond said. “A researcher in England told me we are the longest running group in musical history that’s been together without disbanding. I told her, ‘You can’t disband a family.’ Plus, we really like each other.”

Osmond said their success comes from having parents who made sure every child got his or her chance to do what they love.

“You can’t fake it for this many years,” he said. “You’re just a part of something cool. It’s about people remembering the brand.”

The “brand” includes the Osmond Brothers on world tours, Donny & Marie as a duo working a signature show in Las Vegas and Jimmy on his own in Europe and Japan and managing a whole raft of Osmond projects, including the 50th Anniversary show that apparently reignited interest in Osmond magic.

The result of the latest collaboration is a new “family” album that’s already selling big in Europe. Owning the No. 2 spot on Tesco store’s best-selling list, the play list includes a cover song, “I Need You,” written by Gerry Beckley and previously recorded by a number of artists.

The other cuts are original material created by a number of songwriters including Michael Bolton. Two songs were created by the brothers, “Getcha Goin’ My Way” and “Remember Me.”

“We wanted to have some new music for our fans in Europe,” Jimmy Osmond said. “Part of our talent is our ability to adapt and change, show our range.”

The album is being released Sept. 18 in the United States. The three main singers — Jimmy, Jay and Merrill — will be making a personal appearance on Sept. 22 in Utah.

A percentage of the profits from the sale of the new album will go to the Children’s Miracle Network charity started by the Osmonds’ mother, Olive.

The Osmond Brothers Final Bow And Testimony

On this, Merrill Osmond’s Birthday, The Osmond Brothers take their final Bow and share their Testimony to their dear fans and friends in their United Kingdom’s Final Tour.

I know that Wayne and I so wish that we could have been there to perform and say thank you to the most wonderful fans and friends any musical artiist could ever wish to have.

I, Alan Osmond, was the oldest of the group and had to leave the group a few years ago due to having Multiiiple Sclerosis.  Wayne Osmond, the second oldest of the group just recently had to leave the group due to health conditions.

We always said a word of prayer before each and every performance we did asking for the Lord’s blessings and for the Holy Spirit to touch those among the audience that they might feel our love and testimony through our music that we have for life, for family, and for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We know that Jesus Christ is The Way to everlasting happiness and that He has restored His Gospel here upon the earth with all the power and authority to bless us with everlasting life in the world and heavens to come.

We usually always end our shows with a musical testimony via a song that we love so much; a song we wrote for The Plan Album called, “Are You Up There”, and ending it with the classic song, “I Believe”.  These shows that we have done for about 55+ years have always started with a word of prayer backstage and usually ended with a song of gratitude and belief on stage.

In behalf of all of my brothers and sister Marie, myself and all of the Osmond families, may we say thank you for accepting us and our music, and especially for all of those tender words, hugs, kisses and eternal friendships that will never go away.  We love our fans and call them friends knowing that there is purpose in life.

We Osmonds are all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and are not ashamed of the fullness of His gospel.  We sing His name, we take upon ourselves His Name, and always remember Him and strive to keep His Commandments.

If you have felt that ‘Spirit’ and love in our concerts, our music, our TV and media moments, or wonder why we are the way we are . . . then we invite you to click this link and ask of those who respond to share with you “what it is that you felt” and then ask them any questions.  Ask them to explain and to give you answers to “the reason for the hope that is within us” Osmonds.  Or, if you see us, just ask us personally and we will share with you the glad message of Jesus Christ and His Plan of Life that includes The Way to return back to our Heavenly Parents and what is needed to be able to live in the highest mansions of Heaven with them for all eternity.

 My Brothers Final Tour In The U.K.

My thoughts and prayers are with my brothers as they perform their final tour of the United Kingdom.

As you know, we started out as five brothers called the Osmond Brothers.

Myself: Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, and Donny.

Then our youngest brother, Jimmy joined us!

We then we canged our name to The Osmonds because Marie, our only sister,  joined us!

Merrill sent to me last night of them singing their closing song, “Remember Me”.  I wish I could show you.  You will be seeing it soon!

There are only three brothers performing now due to health challenges.

In behalf of Wayne and myself, we say to all of our wonderful fans . . .

Family History Moments: Osmond Family’s Focus

For decades the Osmonds have sung and performed for people around the world. In July 2008, all nine siblings of the famous Osmond family — Virl, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy — performed together with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during two evenings of Pioneer Day celebrations in the LDS Conference Center. However, even when performing in different parts of the world, this large family has always taken time to focus on families, including trying to locate distant cousins and performing temple work for their deceased ancestors and relatives. 

The Osmonds’ love of family history and temple work was instilled in them when they were young. Their parents, George and Olive Osmond, contributed countless hours toward genealogy and temple work, and involved their children in this “eternal work” as much as possible. As the mother of the world-famous singing family, Olive Osmond was constantly on the go. Yet, wherever she went she was continually answering and sending family history letters, compiling and directing genealogical research work, devising and suggesting new ways to enter family data into computer programs, and constantly encouraging relatives and her worldwide audience to become more involved in genealogy and family history.

As Alan Osmond has said, “My mother taught her children how to do family research, and we published our family history in several magazines and on various websites.” In 2008 the Osmonds traveled around the world on their 50th Anniversary World Tour, and according to Alan, “We would greet the audiences from the stage as,

‘Hi, Cousin! How Are We Related?’”

This is a glorious time in which to live here upon the earth.

As we travel through life, there come times when we must stand up and be counted. These are times of testing. Are we on the Lord’s side, keeping his commandments? Do we sustain our leaders and uphold them? Do we stand steadfast and unwavering?  Do we compromise those things we know are true?

It is a temptation to become so involved in the things of the world that we lose sight of more important values, the things of the spirit and family.  We tried to do this with our music.

All the effort and struggle and sorrow will be well worth it, for we will have earned the greatest of all gifts, the gift of eternal life. May this be our happy lot, I humbly pray.

Submitted on 2011/12/27 at 1:39 am This is Alan. I need to comment! I was somewhat taken back by this video with this open hearted discussions by Donny and my brothers whom I love. It was hard to hear them say those things that we have kept to ourselves for so many years when we were called goody goody, too clean cut, too Mormon, and that we would never make it in show business because of our righteous, moral and Christian, principle driven family image that we had and yet we had the greatest friends and relationships with the biggest and best names in the business and leaders of the world. I saw and heard what Donny and my brothers said and sometimes it was really hard times but, can I tell you how much fun we all had together! As the oldest of the brothers, we were treated and loved so well by our fans and friends that even Walt Disney, Elvis Presley, Paul McCartney, Led Zepplin, The Queen of England, Ronald Reagan and others commented how much they liked our family. We had nothing to hide or to prove except to be who we were and to be the best entertainers we could become. We worked hard at it and loved it. (Most of it.) Yes, we would come off stage just sweaty and tired but were well fulfilled by working hard and in receiving the audiences applause and standing ovations. We had to lease Led Zepplin’s sound system because it was the loudest and our audiences all screamed and couldn’t hear us without it! We were told that we were the loudest group on tour in the 70′s because of all the screaming girls! We were also each others best friends! We sang together, worked together, laughed together, cried together, we prayed together, and gave up much of our childhood and our lives to our careers for each other because we found ourselves within a family of love and togetherness that was unlike any that we had ever seen. Yes, we are normal and have our moments but the strong will of a firm yet loving father and the love and support of a saintly mother, we kept balance in our home and lives. I was ready to leave the group and go serve a mission for our church for two years but was told by the Holy spirit after prayer not to; that I was to stay with my brothers and as a family and continue to spread good will and open doors for the missionaries by setting an example as a family to the world. We believe that God’s Plan of life is the family and we were going to never change the way we lived our lives. We sacrificed for one another and dedicated our lives to the Lord that we might bring joy and happiness to someone in the audience with every show that we did. We prayed before every show that we might touch someones life for the better and show by example the love that we had among us and for them so that maybe someone would want to know the reason for the happiness, joy, peace and love that they saw and felt among us on stage. We had an act but our family of brotherhood and love for one another was no act! It was real and still is very, very strong and true today. It was hard being the eldest of the group and the so called, “boss”/”leader” with the responsibility of always trying to make sure we were well rehearsed and ready, and that we came up with an idea of something to do each week on the Andy Williams Shows because we were NOT on the show the next week if we didn’t! That alone made us work together and develop individual talents reaching inside to write songs, learn many different musical instruments, dance, develop our personalities and comedy wit with showmanship that others would want to see. We were not all Donny Osmond’s and never wanted to be but, we were pleased to be his brother as well as Marie’s and we were supportive and had a slogan that we were, “All for one and one for all”, even if we gave up our personal rock and roll careers. We didn’t care who was out front as long as it was an Osmond! I wasn’t even married 24 hours when Father insisted that I leave my wife Suzanne on my honeymoon and fly to Los Angeles with my youngest brother Jimmy to make sure he was well produced on a TV show that he was doing. Yes, we sacrificed for each other all right but so did our Lord Jesus Christ for all of us. He is our example and mentor. He is the way and the reason for all of the long hard working years we gave and why we lived righteously and never succumbed to the temptations of the flesh. Yes, there were opportunities to slip from our moral commitments but we stood against them together and individually with integrity and we tried to always live His ways and honestly worked hard to live it. No, we aren’t perfect but that’s why we came to earth; to learn. I wouldn’t trade a day of my life with my best friends, my brothers and Marie. And, let’s not forget our two older brothers who had to watch us from the wings because they were deaf. They were just as important as any one of us and they were our heros! And they knew it! After I posted this video, I went to bed but woke up knowing that I had to come down and share my heart and let everyone know that we honestly have NO REGRETS for the MOST wonderful years we could have ever lived together in the entertainment, recording, and television business world. We were rich, we were poor, we could live happily with very little and still can give and share what we have been blessed with to each other and know that, “where much is given, much is expected”. I feel our parents are watching us from up above more than entertainers and musicians but, as successful fathers and a Mother Marie, husbands, wife, with our children who are sealed to us and us to them for time and for all eternity. We plan on being together forever! What is that worth? As Mother would say, “More than tongue can tell.” We spent our lives in Show Business but it was NOT our Life! We don’t take any gold records or STUFF with us after we leave this world but, we DO take wonderful memories with broken hearts and contrite spirits and the oh, so many blessings and friends that we made and love. What we do take with us are our solid marriages, our individual families and the greatest memories and experiences that anyone could ever have had in this life with each other standing side by side, just as we sang with our first theme song. We may have been a little bit country, and a little bit Rock and Roll, but we are all a whole lot better people for having had the tests and trials that we had as well as the success and recognition that was profound. We could NOT have done it as individuals as well as we did do it as a family; an Eternal and a Forever Family! Alan Osmond

Being an Osmond

Since this video, my brothers and I have really have become much closer and have come to deal with past ventures that our so called, people we trusted, made for us. We don’t have any malice because we know we don’t take any “stuff” with us after we die anyway!  What we will take with us though is an eternal love and respect for each other with great experiences and many friends plus a common conviction that Jesus is the Christ.   Because of so many of those truths that we believed in and have lived, and still do, the hard work and great memories will bring us all together again one day in the eternal heavens of the celestial kingdom with each other and our families with our Eternal parents once again.

Regarding my M.S., I decided that “Life is T.UF.F.”

I “T”, Targeted this thing called M.S., I “U”, worked hard to learn and understand all I could about it.  I “F”, focused on the problem and didn’t shotgun but, rifled in on the issue, and then I “F” had fight.  I was NOT going to take this sitting down.  I “fought” to walk, to breathe and to eat proper foods.  My wife, Suzanne, saved my life with care giving and nutrition and all natural products she gave me.  I am still around today and enjoying our twenty (20) grandchildren.

I know that the Lord gave me weakness to make me humble and even stronger in other ways as in says in Ether 12: 27.  The Lord tells us that we can learn from our suffering and I did. Well, I am doing better and I can honestly say that I enjoy life now more than ever before;  And, I will continue to say that I may have M.S., but M.S. does NOT HAVE ME!

As my family and I continue forward with life we try to remember that we all have choices and the freedom to choose.  May we be wise and do as the scriptures says, “Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.”  Moro. 10: 32
