Are You In The Right Place?
Doing The Right Thing?
Going In The Right Direction?

Are You On The Right Path?
It’s nice to know that there is a heaven.
What’s really nice, is to know you’re going there!
We each must escape the corruption that is in the world.
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:4

Though it may be hard and filled with much temptation, this is the purpose and why we came to this world to choose the way we should live, go the way we should go, and to conquer the enemy of all unrighteousness.
“And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor ; for if we should cease to , we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God.” Moroni 9:6

God’s Plan of Happiness was to gain a body of flesh and blood and know both good and evil, and to choose between the two. We are to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He hast sent. Jesus came to show us the way and to rescue us from our mistakes. After the test, comes the glory.
“But the God of all , who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you , stablish, strengthen, settle you.” 1 Peter 5:10
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.” 2 Peter 1: 8
“And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 2 Peter 1:6
We must always remember and remind ourselves who we are!
We are children of God.

“For, behold, said he, I have a , in which I know that is ; and had we remained in Jerusalem we should also have .”
2 Nephi 1:4
“But behold, when the time cometh that they shall dwindle in , after they have received so great blessings from the hand of the Lord—having a knowledge of the creation of the earth, and all men, knowing the great and marvelous works of the Lord from the creation of the world; having power given them to do all things by faith; having all the commandments from the beginning, and having been brought by his infinite goodness into this precious land of promise—behold, I say, if the day shall come that they will reject the Holy One of Israel, the true , their Redeemer and their God, behold, the judgments of him that is shall rest upon them.”
2 Nephi 1:10
“O my sons, that these things might not come upon you, but that ye might be a choice and a people of the Lord. But behold, his will be done; for his are righteousness forever.” 2 Nephi 1:19
Through study and prayer and in choosing good versus evil, He will let us know that we are in the right place. But, we must have charity, which is to give up selfishness. As we all will come to ‘the end of the road’, this is a “to do list” in the work of God.

“Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.” 2 Peter 1:14
“ For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:16-19

The “more sure word” means, ‘to see the Savior’. The Savior sometimes taught with parables.
-
As we learn the truths of the gospel, what do you think it means to see with our eyes and hear with our ears?
-
Why do you think light will be taken away from us if we are unwilling to receive greater light?
-
Think about what you need to do to receive more gospel light.
Study the parable of the sower. In this parable, the Savior shows that the same gospel message produces different effects depending on how people receive it.

In the parable of the wheat and the tares, the wheat represents the righteous, or “the children of the Kingdom.” The tares represent “the children of the wicked one.”
Think about:
-
How can we remain faithful even though the “tares” are allowed to grow among the “wheat”?
-
Why is the word of God unable to grow in people “whose hearts are full of iniquity”?
-
Why do tribulation and persecution lead some to set aside the word of God?
-
In what ways might “the care of this world” and “the deceitfulness of riches” choke the word within us?
-
How can we ensure that our “ground” is good when the word is planted in us?
-
What can parents do to help children prepare their hearts to receive the word?

Here are THE KEYS:
1. Knowledge
2. Having your ‘Calling and Election’ made sure
“Righteous followers of Christ can become numbered among the elect who gain the assurance of exaltation. This calling and election begins with repentance and baptism. It becomes complete when they “press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end” (2 Ne. 31:19–20). The scriptures call this process making our calling and election sure (2 Pet. 1:4–11; D&C 131:5–6).
3. Knowing you are going to heaven
And here are things TO AVOID:
- “But there were also among the people, even as there shall be among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” 2 Peter 2:1
- “And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of shall be evil spoken of.” 2 Peter 2:2
- “And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.” 2 Peter 2:3
- “But chiefly them that after the flesh in the of , and despise . are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.” 2 Peter 2:10
- “But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption.” 2 Peter 2:12
- “And shall receive the of unrighteousness, as they that count it to in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 2 Peter 2:13
- ” Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children.” 2 Peter 2: 14
- “For when they great swelling words of , they through the of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean from them who live in error.” 2 Peter 2:18
- “These are without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the of is reserved for ever.
- “While they promise them , they themselves are the of : for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in .” 2 Peter 2:19

Here are the PUNISHMENTS:
- “The Lord knoweth how to the out of , and to the unjust unto the day of to be punished. 2 Peter 2:9
- “But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption.” 2 Peter 2:12
- “ And shall receive the of unrighteousness, as they that count it to in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you” 2 Peter 2:13
- “Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children.” 2 Peter 2:14
- “These are without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the of is reserved for ever.” 2 Peter 2:17
- “While they promise them , they themselves are the of : for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in .” 2 Peter 2:19

What Are Temples For?

What Are Temples For?

Temples are literally houses of the Lord. They are holy places of worship where individuals make sacred covenants with God. Because making covenants with God is such a solemn responsibility, individuals cannot enter the temple to receive their endowments or be sealed in marriage for eternity until they have fully prepared themselves and been members of the Church for at least a year. Throughout history, the Lord has commanded His people to build temples. The Church is working to build temples all over the world to make temple blessings more available for a greater number of Heavenly Father’s children.
“And verily I say unto you, let this house be built unto my name, that I may reveal mine
ordinances therein unto my people; for I deign to reveal unto my church things which have been
kept hid from before the foundation of the world, things that pertain to the dispensation of the
fulness of times.”

The Family Is Under Attack
“All across the world families are falling apart. The place to begin to improve society is in the home. Children do, for the most part, what they are taught. We are trying to make the world better by making the family stronger”, said President Gordon B. Hinckley at the general Relief Society meeting in September 1995 who explained why we have been given “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” now! Since that time, it has been reprinted in many languages for families throughout the world. It has also been presented to government leaders in many lands.
Look around at our communities and nation today and you will understand why we need to heed the counsel and warning from our prophets and the scriptures and remember that “The Family is central to God’s plan.”
Is this happening in your family?
The proclamation states that marriage and family are “ordained of God” and “central to [His] plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. Why is the family central to God’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children? (See D&C 131:1–4; 1 Corinthians 11:11.)
The proclamation also states that we are all spirit children of God, created in His image (see also Genesis 1:26–27). When a Mother and Father create a body for a child, one of Heavenly Father’s Spirit children enters that body. Everything is created spiritually before it is created physiclally. We are taught from the scriptures about our potential and reminds us that we all are members of Heavenly Father’s family which should affect the way you feel about our earthly families and give us the desire to become stronger families.
Sacred ordinances or promises with God make it possible for families to be together eternally.
Knowing that we will live forever after this life should help us understand that the experiences we encounter in this life will help us in our eternal progression. It helps us understand why marriage is necessary for the family to be eternal together. The Holy Temples, the House of the Lord, is where marriages are performed for time AND for all eternity and where promises or covenants with the Lord are made so that families may be together forever. Knowing this forever purpose of the family will help parents prepare their children to follow in the same like manner and affect the way we treat family members now.
The same priesthood power that created worlds, galaxies, and the universe can and should be part of our lives to succor, strengthen, and bless our families, our friends, and our neighbors—in other words, to do the things that the Savior would do if He were ministering among us today. And the primary purpose of this priesthood power is to bless, sanctify, and purify us so we can live together with our families in the presence of our heavenly parents, bound by priesthood sealings, participating in the marvelous work of God and Jesus Christ in forever expanding Their light and glory. This-is-my-work-and-my-glory.
The power to create mortal life is sacred.
God has spoken through our Prophets declaring the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.
Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations. This is why obedience to God’s commandments is so important.
God is “the same yesterday, today and forever” and so are His commandments. With His ‘Plan of Happiness’, our spirit bodies will one day return back to heaven. The body cannot live without the spirit and so when it’s time to return, we will physically die; but, we continue to live spiritually. Jesus is the way and reason we all will be resurrected because of His atonement. When we do, our spirits will be reunited once again with our physical bodies never to be separated again.
Henry B. Eyring of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught: “Children are the inheritance of the Lord to us in this life and also in eternity. Marriage and Eternal life is not only to have forever our descendants from this life. It is also to have eternal increase.”
Marriage is ‘ordained of God’ and a partnership with God and is most important. When the union of man and a woman co-create a life, one of God’s spirit children enters that child’s physical body as well giving it life. This brings responsibility and accountability for that spirit. The misuse in causing or terminating a life has serious responsibility and consequences!
We can understand why our Heavenly Father commands us to reverence life and to cherish the powers that produce it as sacred. If we do not have those reverential feelings in this life, how could our Father give them to us in the eternities?
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apolstes taught: “The body is an essential part of the soul. We declare that one who uses the God-given body of another without divine sanction abuses the very soul of that individual, abuses the central purpose and processes of life. In sexual transgression the soul is at stake—the body and the spirit.”
It is most important that parents help children understand the importance of moral cleanliness. They should review with their children the teachings of sexual purity.
Parents have a sacred duty to care for each other and teach their children.
President Gordon B. Hinckley taught: “When you are married, be fiercely loyal one to another. Selfishness is the great destroyer of happy family life. If you will make your first concern the comfort, the well-being, and the happiness of your companion, sublimating any personal concern to that loftier goal, you will be happy, and your marriage will go on throughout eternity.”
Children are blessed when they have parents who love and care for each other. Parents are responsible to teach their children. (See Mosiah 4:14–15; D&C 68:25–28; 93:40.) Parents should find effective ways to teach these principles as they were taught; perhaps in family home evenings, family prayer, mealtime, bedtime, traveling together and working together.
The role of the Church is a secondary role in teaching children with Sunday School and other activities.
Successful marriages and families are based on righteous principles.
The proclamation teaches that “happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These teachings can bring happiness into your home. “Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”
What are the primary responsibilities of fathers? One responsibility is to “preside … in love and righteousness”. (See D&C 121:41–46.) Boys and young men can prepare themselves now to provide for their families by encouraging them to gain a formal education and learn practical skills. Young women can also prepare themselves to fulfill the responsibility of being mothers and returning to the old and sacred values which begin in the home. It is here that truth is learned, that integrity is cultivated, that self-discipline is instilled, and that love is nurtured. Mothers, guard your children. Nothing is more precious to you as mothers, absolutely nothing. Your children are the most valuable thing you will have in time or all eternity. You will be fortunate indeed if, as you grow old and look at those you brought into the world, you find in them uprightness of life, virtue in living, and integrity in their behavior. This is also important for fathers to nurture their children because as parents, you should help each other as equal partners.
The proclamation concludes by warning of the serious consequences of family disintegration and by calling upon all people to strengthen the family. Individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.
We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.
President Gordon B. Hinckley told a gathering of mayors and other public officials: “To you men and women of great influence, you who preside in the cities of the nation, to you I say that it will cost far less to reform our schools, to teach the virtues of good citizenship, than it will to go on building and maintaining costly jails and prisons. … But there is another institution of even greater importance than the schools. It is the home. I believe that no nation can rise higher than the strength of its families.” Families must be strong in order for nations to survive.
The proclamation also warns that those “who abuse spouse or offspring … will one day stand accountable before God.” Church leaders have spoken out against abuse of any kind. The following quotation can be applied to both men and women:
“Never abuse your wives. Never abuse your children. But gather them in your arms and make them feel of your love and your appreciation and your respect. Be good husbands. Be good fathers.” Gordon B. Hinckley
Suzanne and I have both been blessed with “goodly parents” that put us first and taught us by example the way to become. We saw more sermons than we did in hearing them from our kind and hard working fathers and loving, nurturing and caring mothers who sacrificed their lives for us. It is now much easier for us as parents to know how to raise our children having watched our parents deal with the many challenges of raising a family today. Yes, it can be challenging in raising a family today but the blessings are literally “Out Of This World”!
For those who have wayward children and may have made mistakes themselves in the past, remember that a most important part of God’s plan of life through the atonement of Jesus Christ is that of repentance and forgiveness. To receive forgiveness through repentance, remember, Jesus is The Way.
When we were young as a nation, our forefathers promised to remember God and to keep His commandments. God in turn promised to protect us as a nation and to give us prosperity. We are concerned that the covenants or promises that we have made with God have been broken and are not being kept. If we see trubulation and hard times come into our lives and to our families, then it is only because we have broken our promises with God. He then, does not have to keep His covenants and promises either!
We are living during the last days, a “great and dreadful day”, when Satan is desperate to win as many souls of mankind and our families that he can. May we remember God, our Heavenly Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, and put prayer and thanksgiving back into our homes, schools and nation. May we love one another and stop aborting innocent children who each have a spirit body within and keep God’s commandments so that we may be worthy of His love and blessings once again.
Isaiah’s Prophecy Of The “Mountain (Temple) Of The Lord” Is Fulfilled
By Alan on Nov 07 in Blog tagged his path, House of the Lord, Isaiah, Isaiah's Prophecy of the Mountain (Temple) of the Lord is fulfilled, Jerusalem, Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith, LDS, prophecy, Temples, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the law, the Lord, The Plan of Salvation, Zion | 1 Comment
Isaiah speaks directly to us!

Many of us are personally blessed to see the fulfillment of this prophecy as we enter the Lord’s temples and are taught therin of “his ways” and walk in “his path”.
( Isa. 2: 3 ) “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
Isaiah’s prophecy of the “mountain of the
Lord” (Isa. 2: 1-5) is fulfilled as we build
temples throughout the world.
(“Mountain of the Lord” = House)
The Temple is the Lord’s house.

(There are hundreds of them all around the world.)
Isa. 2: 10-22 is one of the greatest prophecies recorded in the standard works of Christ’s second coming and his judgments on the proud.
Perhaps we, or our children or grandchildren, may witness these events as Jesus Christ comes again to the earth this time with great power and glory.
The Mountain (Temple Of The Lord
(Isa. 2: 1-5)
This prophecy speaks to us in our day. The gathering of Israel, temples, and temple service. We will “flow” upwards to the temple mountain, learn of God’s ways (in the temple), and walk in God’s paths (in the temple). In additioin, temple service and worship (Isa. 2: 2-3) are directly connected to worldwide peace and prosperity (Isa. 2: 4); that is, temple attendance (Isa. 2: 2) results in peace (Isa. 2: 4), a desire to learn of God (Isa. 2: 3), and a willingness to walk in his light (Isa. 2: 5).
Micah presents the same prophecy in his writings (Micah 4: 1-3).
Joseph Smith summed up the connection between the gathering of Israel and temple service:
“The object of gathering the Jews, or the people of God in any age of the world . . . was to build unto the Lord a house whereby He could reveal unto His people the ordinances of His house and the glories of His kingdom, and teach the people
the way of salvation.”
.
“He will teach us of his ways“… The Lord will teach us through revelation given through his prophets and apostles, through the scritures, and by way of personal revelation (Isa. 54: 13). Specifically, we will learn of God’s ways in his temple.
Isaiah’s Address (Prayer) to Jehovah (Isa. 2: 6-9)
Therefore [O Lord] thou hast forsaken thy people
the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east,
and [hearken unto the] soothsayers like the Philistines,
and they [clasp hands] please themselves in the children of strangers. (Isa. 2: 6)
Their land also is full of silver and gold,
neither is there any end of their treasures;
Their land is also full of horses,
neither is there any end of their chariots: (
Isa. 2: 7)
Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands,
that which their own fingers have made: (
Isa. 2: 8)
And the [ordinary]
man boweth [not]
down,
and the great man humbleth himself [not]:
therefore forgive them not. (
Isa. 2: 9)
NOTES AND COMMENTARY:
Isa. 2: 6 thou hast forsaken. The Lord has forsaken members of the house of Israel because of their wicked condition (2:6-9). The term forsaken has the sense of abandoning the house of Israel and leaving them without the Spirit of the Lord, revelation, and God’s word through his living prophets.
replenished … east. To the Israelites, “east is the sacred direction. Holy temples are oriented eastward . . . Jesus Christ enters his temples from the east (Ezek. 43: 1-2; see Exek. 10:19); and at the time of the Second Coming, the Lord will come from the east (JS-M 1: 26; Matt. 24: 27; Teachings, 287).” In Isa. 2: 5, the prophet Isaiah commands the house of Israel to “walk in the light of the Lord,” which comes from the east. Yet the house of Israel attempted to be spiritually revitalized (replenished) through apostate, spurious sources from the east (such as the deities and religious systems of the heathen countries), which constituted mockery unto God.
soothsayers. Individuals who pretend to prophesy or predict the future are soothsayers. The law of Moses contained espress commands against the Israelites’ association with these false prophets (Lev. 18: 26; Deut. 18: 10-12).
Philistines. This was a group of people who occupied southwest Palestine and who often warred against Israel.
clasp hands . . . children of strangers. One meaning of this phrase is to participate and make covenants in apostate temple systems whith those who are not affiliated with the true Israelite temple. The Hebrew word for strangers has reference to characters who are “foreign” or “alien” to the house of Israel. A command from the law of Moses warned the Israelites, “Thou shat make no covenant with them [strangers; such as the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebosites], nor with their gods” (Ex. 23: 32). The phrase also refers to God’s command that Israelites not intermarry with those who do not belong to covenant Israel (Deut. 7: 1-4).
2:7 silver/gold/treasures. When they sought these riches, which are symbolic of worldly materialism (Rev. 17: 4; Rev. 18: 16; 1 Ne. 13: 7-8), ancient Israel broke the law of Moses, for they were commanded, “neither shall [you] greatly multiply to [your]self silver and gold” (Deut. 17: 17). The Lord’s people are ever commanded to seek him rather than the riches of this world.
2:8 idols. This term refers both to heathen deities constructed of wood or stone and to more abstract things that men become excessively devoted to, including worldly wealth, the honor of men, and things of the flesh. Isaiah speaks of idols in Isa. 2: 8, 18, 20; Isa. 10: 10-11; Isa. 19: 1, 3; and Isa. 31: 7. The law of Moses speaks clearly against the creation and worship of idols (Ex. 20: 3-4).
2:9 ordinary/great man. Both ordinary people, or commoners, and those who have achieved worldly status and positions are guilty of pride.
forgive them not. Isaiah, whose testimony lists the sins of Israel, stands as a witness against the house of Israel in Jehovah’s courtroom (Isa. 1: 2-5; Isa. 2: 4). Inasmuch as the children of Israel saturate their lives with sins (as Isaiah suggests in the terms replenish and full, used several times) and fail to hearken to the voice of man prophets by repenting and turning to God, Isaiah can deliver his plea (prayer) before the Lord.
Forgive them not.
Isaiah has testified against Israel, and now, according to the custom of the court, the judge will deliver his sentence. In this case, the judgment will be delivered by Jesus Christ during the “day of Jehovah” (Isa. 2: 12).

Suzanne and Alan Osmond are now celebrating 37 years of Marriage with their future together for an Eternity of Time!
Married July 16, 1974 at the Provo, Utah Temple.
The Latter-day Saint Concept of Marriage
Marriage is and should be a sacrament. The word sacrament is variously defined, but among Christian people it signifies a religious act or ceremony, solemnized by one having proper authority. It is a pledge, or solemn covenant, a spiritual sign or bond between the contracting parties themselves and between them and God. That marriage was instituted and sanctified by the Lord Himself is shown by the following quotations:
“And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. …
“Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:18, 24).
When Jesus departed from Galilee and came into the coasts of Judea beyond Jordan, a great multitude followed Him, and the Pharisees questioned Him regarding divorce.
“And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
“And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:4–6).
Marriage Fulfills God’s Purposes
It is plain that God intended that man and woman should become one. By personally officiating at this first wedding, He sanctified the institution of marriage. It is a normal, healthful, and desirable state and was instituted to fulfill God’s purpose in the earth.
It is the central element in the domestic establishment. It is more than a human institution to be regulated solely by custom and civil law. It is more than a contract under the sanction of moral law. It is or should be a religious sacrament by which men and women solemnly undertake to cooperate with God in His avowed purpose to make earth life and mortality available to His spirit children and to bring to pass their immortality and eternal life.
There are those who say that the highest, most dedicated, and most desirable life may be achieved outside the marriage covenant. In other words, they would forbid those who seek the highest glory to be “contaminated by physical and animal-like associations.” There is no warrant in the scripture for such doctrine. In the book of Proverbs we read, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord” (Proverbs 18:22). …
And in the Doctrine and Covenants we read, “And again, verily I say unto you, that whoso forbiddeth to marry is not ordained of God, for marriage is ordained of God unto man” (D&C 49:15).
Temple Marriage Brings True Happiness
The Latter-day Saints believe that in order to attain the best in life and the greatest happiness in this world and for the next, men and women must be married in the temple for time and eternity. Without the sealing ordinances of temple marriage, man cannot achieve a godlike stature or receive a fulness of joy. …
To a Latter-day Saint, there is only one kind of marriage that is wholly acceptable: temple or celestial marriage, which is performed only in the temples of the Church. Temples are erected and dedicated in holiness to the Lord to provide a place where spiritual and eternal ceremonies and ordinances may be performed. While we recognize civil marriages performed by ministers of other churches and civil marriages performed by officers of the law or others legally qualified to perform them, we believe that only in a temple of God can a marriage for time and eternity be performed and then only by one having the authority which Christ gave to Peter when He said, “Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).
This authority is referred to in the scriptures as “the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:19), and in celestial marriage those keys open the door to that kingdom.
Needs Are Fully Realized
Man has certain basic needs—moral, social, biological, and spiritual—and these can only be fully realized in the God-ordained institution of eternal marriage.
To live the abundant life here and eternal life hereafter, man must love and be loved, serve and sacrifice, have responsibility and exercise his God-given creative powers. “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
But perhaps the greatest value of marriage is not that which accrues to the individual man and woman. The purpose of their union in the beginning is indicated by the Lord’s commandment: “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28). In proper marriage, there is opportunity for man to realize his natural urge to be creative and productive. This can be completely fulfilled and properly enjoyed only in the marriage relationship, in child bearing and child rearing. Parents should remember that the children born to them—their children—are also the children of God. He is the Father of their spirit bodies, and during the pre-earth existence He wisely made provision for eternal element and eternal spirit to be inseparably connected and receive a fulness of joy. Latter-day Saints therefore believe that God is actually the third partner in this relationship and that bringing children into the world within the divinely sanctioned institution of marriage is part of His plan to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
The Eternal Nature of Marriage
When the Lord Jesus designated love of God and love of fellowmen as the two great commandments, He glorified love. In fact, we are told that God is love. Therefore, as God is eternal, so love must be eternal, and its fruits and blessings are intended to continue throughout the eternities to come. But to enjoy the privileges and advantages of eternal love as it relates to husbands and wives, parents and children, the ordinance that authorizes and sanctifies this most beautiful of all relationships is not acceptable if it contains the limitation “until death do you part.” For family relationships and conjugal associations to be eternal, the marriage contract must authoritatively state, “for time and for all eternity.”
All people should realize their responsibility to their offspring and to the covenants they make with respect thereto. When the Lord said, “We without them cannot be made perfect” (D&C 128:18), He was referring to a chain whose links extend into the future as well as the past. In fact, we may have more direct responsibility for those entrusted to us in this life than to our ancestors. We cannot be held responsible for the sins, either of commission or of omission, of our ancestors, but He has warned that in case of failure on the part of our posterity, if it can be attributed to our failure in our duty to them, then the sins will be upon our heads.
Among the blessings of those who attain the highest degree in the celestial kingdom is the blessing of eternal increase, which, among other things, means that even after death men may continue to cooperate with God in bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Progressing as Eternal Companions
The Latter-day Saint concept of eternal progression includes eternal development, eternal increase of knowledge, power, intelligence, awareness, and all the characteristics and capacities that make for godhood. But in the economy of God, man cannot attain this state of continuing perfection in his unfinished or unmarried state. There must be growth and increase of the whole man—in other words, the man who has found and been united to his other half.
This concept of marriage, with its divine perspective, gives new meaning and adds importance, dignity, and glory to the idea of marriage. With this concept the thoughtful person will be more careful and selective in the choice of his eternal companion. Certainly before entering into such an eternal contract, both men and women should be humble and thoughtful and should prayerfully seek for divine guidance.
The religious sanctity and sanction of the marriage relationship [are] greatly enhanced and appreciated where the couple, before marriage—and they must, necessarily, be of the same faith—start with the same goal in mind. They must prepare and be worthy to receive the sacred ordinance in edifices where only the worthy may enter. Here they receive instruction, make covenants, and then at the altar pledge eternal love and fidelity, each for the other, in the presence of God and of angels. Surely such a concept and practice, with its accompanying obligations, makes for the permanence of the home, the glorifying of the institution of marriage, and the salvation of the souls of men.
An Act of Faith
Such marriage is essentially an act of faith, solemnized in the presence of a divine partner. There must be faith and courage to see it through, to endure to the end, despite the difficulties, trials, disappointments, and occasional bereavements which may be encountered.
When one accepts the conditions and obligations of this eternal partnership, he must realize that failure here is almost total failure. Whatever his successes may be in other fields of activity, if a man fails to discharge the obligations imposed by the eternal covenant, the appalling penalty will be the loss of celestial glory, accompanied by responsibility for the losses sustained by those with whom he made the contract and for whom he is responsible.
“Marriage is ordained of God unto man.
“Wherefore, it is lawful that he should have one wife, and they twain shall be one flesh, and all this that the earth might answer the end of its creation;
“And that it might be filled with the measure of man, according to his creation before the world was made” (D&C 49:15–17).
No Blessings Withheld

“What of the many mature members of the Church who are not married? Through no failing of their own, they deal with the trials of life alone. Be we all reminded that, in the Lord’s own way and time, no blessings will be withheld from His faithful Saints. The Lord will judge and reward each individual according to heartfelt desire as well as deed.”
Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “Celestial Marriage,” Liahona and Ensign, Nov. 2008, 94.
Latter-day Saints believe that in order to attain the best in life and the greatest happiness in this world and for the next, men and women must be married in the temple.
Latter-day Saints believe that God is actually the third partner in this marriage relationship and that bringing children into the world within the divinely sanctioned institution of marriage is part of His plan.
On a personal note: I wish to mention to the many friends and acquaintances of ours that are married but not in the Temple. You are to be commended for being married. If you are NOT married and are living together with someone, you should Get Married! It is wrong, otherwise.
If you desire to be married for Eternity, please go to http://mormon.org and visit with a Mormon who can help you understand and choose to become of our faith, or not. Once you are, and if you can live the commandments of God, it takes about a year as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before you can enter the House of the Lord, a Holy Temple of God and be married for time and for all eternity and to have your children sealed to you for Eternity as well!
I will not take all of my gold records, my home, cars, money or any assetts with me when I die. But, I can promise you that you and your partner with all of your children will be together forever for all Eternity if you enter into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the holy matrimony of Erernal Marriage where you are sealed together plus your children in one of our Temples for all Eternity! It is Suzanne’s & Alan’s 37th Wedding Anniversary!
By Alan on Jul 13 in Blog tagged Alan marries Suzanne, House of the Lord, Suzanne Pinegar Osmond, temple, That's My Girl, The Family, theFamily | 15 Comments
We’ve Taking The Day Off!
Remembering Back 37 years Ago!

This picture was taken at our home on Osmond Lane in Provo, Utah which was our dream home that we designed and had built. We raised our eight sons there and this home became the center place for our family and friends to come and be together.
Suzanne has always been a great organizer and she is especially one for cleanliness. She reminds me of the scripture that says, “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.” D&C 109: 8
I remember one night when I was saying my evening prayers, I expressed to my Heavenly Father that I had dated a lot of different girls and have tried to find my special someone. I expressed to Him that I was lonely and needed to find that special girl who would spend eternity with me. I even wrote it down in my journal that night before I went to bed.
I was reading my journal a few years later and I noted that it was only one week later that I had also written in my journal, “Tonight I met a real girl; someone really special.” That was after the first date that I had with Suzanne.
I remember the night when I went to a BYU basketball game and I watched this really good looking cheerleader named Suzanne Pinegar more than the game itself! I went down on the basketball floor after the game and went up to her. I introduced myself to her and she was awesome as I visited with her. Her mother Ruth was there also and I ended up talking to her more than Suzanne. I got her phone number and found out later that she had a boy friend that she was dating that just happened to be in California that night when I stepped in! Ha!
Yes, we dated for over 6 months but never went steady. I never went steady with anyone. I told Suzanne that it was only fair for both of us; that if it was right, that it would happen.
I found myself down in Los Angeles performing and producing television shows with my family and I was mising Suzanne. After taping the shows, we as a family would be driving back to Utah in time for my birthday which was that next day. Mother and Father could see that I was missing Suzanne so they gave me an airline ticket to fly home early to be with her the day before my birthday.
I got back to my apartment in Utah and called Suzanne on the phone. She said, “What, are you doing home? Youre not supposed to be here until tomorrow for your birthday.” We visited and I said, “Hey, lets go to dinner.” She hummed and then said, “I can’t.” I said, “Why?” She said, . . . . “I have a date!” I then said, “A date? Cancel it!” She said, “I told that guy that I would. I can’t break my word.” (That said alot to me about Suzanne and her principles.) I paused for a moment of silence and then said, “You’re right. You go on that date . . . but Don’t Have Any Fun!”
I was all alone that day. I sat and looked at her picture which was on the dresser by my bed and I started to pray and then wrote my thoughts in my journal. I read some scriptures and also my Patriarchal Blessing which I received at the age of twelve that pronounced blessings on me based upon worthiness. I pondered upon those special blessings that pertained to me and the one that I would marry. I realized that Suzanne was perfect for me and was the one that I wanted to be with forever. I wrote my feelings down in my journal.
We got together the next day, which was my birthday, and the day Suzanne had planned on being with me. We had the most wonderful day together and I knew she liked me because she had made me a blanket with big letters embroidered on it that said, “Big Al”! We spent the whole day together and even went swimming in the pool at the Riviera Apartments which we owned.
It was then, with our heads all wet and just laughing and having a great time together, that I told her I needed to talk to her. Suzanne later told me that she thought I was going to say goodbye and stop seeing her. I took her up into my parents apartment where we have a living room called The Celestial Room. It is decorated in all white funiture and carpet, and has large mirrors on both sides of the room that reflect an ongoing image forever. I took out the notes that I had written in my journal and read them to her. I then asked her if she would be my wife. We both cried, kissed and hugged. I told her that she didn’t have to give me an answer right then but to think and pray about it.
The next day, I called her at work and said, “Have you decided yet?” She was at work and couldn’t talk so I waited and called again later. She had a lot on her mind and asked her boss if she could leave work and go home. She spent the rest of the day searching her own Patriarchal Blessing and praying for her own answers.
The next day, I picked her up to take her to her Pinegar Family Reunion in my metalic blue Mercedes, 450 SL convertible sports car. It was a warm and sunny day outside so I had the convertible top down. As we were driving up Spanish Fork Canyon when I looked over at her and asked, “Have you made your decision? She looked at me so tenderly and after a pause . . . said, “YES!” I said, “Will you marry me?” She smiled and said, “YES!”
I hit the brakes and stopped my car in the middle of the road, as there was no traffic around, and I got out of the car and ran around it in the middle of the street! I got back in and kissed Suzanne and screamed out loud, Yahoooo! . . . and drove off!
I had a world tour with my brothers and Marie coming up after the Tropicana Hotel Opening that was only about thirteen days away and I wanted Suzanne to go with me on this world tour. We were going everywhere around the world and I didn’t know if it would happen again. I knew that I couldn’t take her on tour as a girl friend as that would not look appropriate! We knew we loved each other and so decided to get married quickly and go on tour as husband and wife!
We flew to Los Angeles the next day and had a press conference where we announced our marriage to the world so that everyone knew about it. We flew back to Utah and Suzanne went away with her family for their annual Pinegar Family Reunion in Wyoming and I went to Las Vegas to open up the New Tropicanna Hotel Showroon where my family and I would be entertaining. The night before I was getting married, I sang on stage, “I’m getting Married in the Morning!”
When July 14th 1974 came up, my parents and I flew to Utah early in the morning in a private plane and met Suzanne and her family at the Provo airport. I saw her and ran to her and picked her up in my arms and swung her around and kissed her. We all then went to ‘The House of The Lord’, or Temple in Provo, Utah where a good friend and general authority of our LDS Church, Paul H. Dunn, married Suzanne and me for time and for all eternity in the Temple! It was a beautiful ceremony. Suzanne’s Father, Ken Pinegar and wife Ruth, and my parents, George V. Osmond and my mother, Olive were there. Most of my family was still in Las Vegas.
As we went outside the Temple after being married, we took a quick picture and then went directly to the airport and flew back to Las Vegas where we had two shows to do that night! We had no time for a wedding breakfast or anything! We had a quick reception in Las Vegas thrown by Dick Clark with celebrity guests like Pat Boone and other celebrities and then we got ready for the shows.
Suzanne had never seen me perform on stage before. She had only heard of Donny Osmond but didn’t know much about the brothers music or me. She knew me as Alan and not as an Osmond Brother; the way that I wanted it! She was surprised when I played the saxophone, piano, trumpet and guitar, and danced. She said, “I never knew you could do those things!” She was also very surprised when the girls screamed for us . . . especially for me! I gave her one of my fan club “Sweet Dreams” pillow cases with my picture on it! Ha!
I have never been more happy in my life than the day I married Suzanne. We now have eight sons and soon, twenty grandchildren. Ten girls and ten boys.
God’s plan of life enables families who live the gospel and receive the necessary ordinances to be together forever with Him. “Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” When a man and woman are married in the temple, they and their family can be together forever. This is a common goal of Latter-day Saints.” It sure was for us!
I wrote several songs about Suzanne; some even before I knew her. She definately has lived up to all of the lyrics I have written! One of them was,
.
“That’s My Girl”.
Take a little love, add a little laughter…
Find a pretty smile, that’s my girl . . .
Take a little rain, turn it into sunshine . . .
Make you feel better, That’s My Girl.
Just take the time… she’ll find the way to
Make you feel at home . . like you’ve always known her
That’s My Girl . . .
In in all the world. . . There’s no one better . . .
I call out her name . . she’s always there .
If you’ve got a hurt . . . you’re never gonna hide it . . .
She knows what you’re thinking . . That’s My Girl . . .
Take a look around . . . Counting my blessings . . .
There’s my girl . . .
In in all the world. . . There’s no one better . . .
I call out her name . . she’s always there .
Where do I go . . Who do I pray for . . .
Why am I living . . for my girl . . .
Take me as I am . . make me look better . . .
That’s My Girl, That’s My Girl,
That’s My Girl!

Why We Mormons Build Temples.
By Alan on Apr 16 in Blog tagged Alan and Suzanne osmond, covenants, endowment, eternal marriage, House of the Lord, husband and wife plus children, missing parts of the Bible, Mormons, Temples, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The Family, theFamily | Comments Off
Temples are literally houses of the Lord.

Temples are places of learning. Their principal purpose is to provide ordinances necessary for the children of God to enable them to return to dwell with Him. Temple ordinances lead to the greatest blessings available through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Everything in the Church—the meetings and activities, the missionary efforts, the lessons taught and the hymns—all lead to the work done in holy temples.
One ordinance received in the temple is called the endowment. The word endowment means “gift,” and the temple endowment truly is a gift from God. The ordinance consists of a series of instructions and includes covenants to live righteously and follow the requirements of the gospel. The endowment focuses on the Savior, His role in Heavenly Father’s plan, and the personal commitment of each member to follow Him.
Another temple ordinance is celestial marriage. In this ordinance husband and wife are sealed to one another for eternity. A sealing performed in the temple continues forever if the husband and wife are faithful to the covenants they make. Children are also sealed to the parents for all eternity so that the family can be together forever!
These Temple Ordinances are some of the missing “precious parts” and covenants that Jesus said were missing from the Bible!
