Dr. Everett Piper
President of Oklahoma Wesleyan University
“I would rather have a President with no degree who knows he’s not God than one with a degree who thinks he is.”
Imagine with me, if you will, that we live in a day where we intentionally sever a man’s arm from his body and then expect him to win a fight, where we pluck a woman’s eyes and ask her to paint her own portrait, where we surgically remove a child’s frontal lobe and demand that she explain an algebraic formula. Imagine that we live in a world where, as C.S. Lewis warned, the elite among us actually claim it makes sense to geld the stallion and then “bid him be fruitful.” Imagine that we live in a time and place where the wise and learned in our courts and our classrooms and our churches actually work to remove a man’s soul and then expect him to stay out of hell.
Who in here today can deny that such a day is upon us…
Bad ideas will breed bad behavior as surely as an acorn will grow an oak or a hurricane will bring a flood. Why would we expect decades of teaching sexual promiscuity in our schools to result in sexual restraint in our students. Why are we surprised at the selfishness of our culture when we have immersed several generations of our children in a curriculum that teaches self-esteem more effectively than it does science and civics? How can we possibly think that teaching values clarification rather than moral absolutes will raise up a virtuous people? Where in the annals of history is there any evidence that the subordination of one person’s right to live to another person’s right to choose ever resulted in the protection of every person’s unalienable right to life? And why would any culture ever think that after decades of diminishing the value of marital fidelity that the same culture would then be able to mount a vigorous defense for the meaning of marriage?
This list could go on and on. The evidence is pretty clear: All we need to do is turn on the nightly news to see the proof. When we separate fact from faith and head from heart, and when we sever belief from behavior and religion from reason, we do not usher in a day of liberty but one of licentiousness.
Today contemporary education has become more about the common than the exceptional. It has become more interested in teaching the student how to get a career and use a condom than how to build character and follow Christ. It’s about acquiring more information rather than more ethics. Education has lost its way and consequently our country has lost its soul and our culture has lost its sense.
Richard Weaver told us that ideas have consequences. Hitler said, “let me control the textbooks and I will control the State.” Huxley and Orwell warned of dystopias where education would be used as a means to total power and total control. Ideas do matter. Yes, ideas clearly have consequences. Good ideas lead to places that are good. Bad ideas lead to places that are bad. As your grandmother said: Garbage in garbage out. She was right! Indeed, education matters!
Today the educational establishment is known not for pursuing truth but rather for its celebration of tolerance and in the name of tolerance we are told that our intolerance is intolerable. I am serious. Contemporary elites actually say things such as, “I can’t tolerate your intolerance.” “I am sure nothing is sure.” “I know nothing can be known.” “It is absolutely true that there are not absolutes.” It is as if we are watching a dog chase its tail. It would be humorous if it weren’t so sad. Perhaps the best summary of this nonsense is: #CanYouSpellSelfRefutingDuplicity” !
The result of this nonsense is that the rainbow banner tolerance has become a dark flag of tyranny almost overnight. What was academic freedom just yesterday is ideological fascism today. Rather than celebrating liberty, liberals now demand conformity. We are told, “You must be one of us!” “You must think like we do!” Campuses are now bastions of speech codes rather than free speech. Students are more interested in “trigger warnings” than they are in pursuing truth. Disagreement is now synonymous with hate. Sexual inclinations now equal sexual identity. Progressives think they are right in telling conservatives they are wrong for thinking they’re right! Submit or be silenced. Ben Stein was right; there is “no intelligence is allowed.” If you dare to challenge the party line or the politically correct you will be “expelled.”
Here are just a few examples of ideological tyranny masquerading as tolerance on today’s college campuses:
Gordon College was challenged in 2015 with the loss of accreditation because its president simply reiterated President Obama’s 2012 position on marriage: That it is defined as a monogamous union of a man and woman.
Oklahoma Wesleyan University was required, in 2014 by the Department of Education, to file for an exemption to Title IX’s new requirement to permit young men who say they are young women to live in women’s dorms.
Professor Mike Adams had to sue the University of North Carolina for denying him tenure because of his conversion from atheism to Christianity.
Guillermo Gonzalez was denied tenure at the Iowa State University because he dared to suggest that the design of nature logically implies a Designer and that the laws of nature seem to logically infer a Nature’s God.
Wendy Kaniner (a former board member of the ACLU and avowed feminist) at Smith College was labeled a racist on her campus for defending free speech.
Jonathan Lopez, (a Los Angeles City College student) was refused a grade and called a “fascist bastard” by his professor because he cited the dictionary definition of marriage in a classroom discussion.
Julea Ward, a graduate student at Eastern Michigan University, was threatened with removal from her academic program because she dared to stand by her Christian beliefs concerning sexual morality.
Crystal Dixon, a former administrator at the University of Toledo (a black woman) was fired for saying that she was offended with the conflation of her race with someone else’s volitional sexual choices.
And this past summer, the Obama administration’s solicitor general Donald Verrilli admitted that tax-exempt status could be lost for Christian colleges and universities that refuse to comply with the Supreme Court’s presumption of redefining a sacrament of the Church.
I could go on and on. The list is nearly endless.
And yet, in the midst of such overwhelming evidence, talking heads in the media continue to argue that there “is no war against Christians!” This is nothing short of stunning. For anyone to argue that there is no ideological war in the academy is either incredibly ignorant or evidence of complete denial. You can disagree with our positions. You can ridicule our faith. You can call us stupid and challenge our scholarship. You can claim we are clinging to our God and our guns. But to deny that Christians are presently being told to shut up and sit in the back of the bus is either ill informed or frankly just bold-faced dishonesty.
And a side bar: Silence is not golden. It is often cowardly or even a sign of contempt. Where is our President in the midst of this? Where is the leader of the FREE world? Christians are losing their jobs, losing their businesses, losing their tenure, losing their education and losing their freedom and he says nothing. He lectures us about the crusades rather than defend us in the courts. Christians are being enslaved, burned alive, and beheaded across the Middle East and he is silent. Christians are being threatened, intimidated, sued, and sequestered in the middle of America and mums the word. Our President might do well to remember the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer: “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act!”
The bottom line is this: Education is in peril. Run by the State and its thought police, colleges across the land have become indoctrination camps more so than campuses of open inquiry. Propaganda and power now reign where there used to be a pursuit of truth.
An even this past summer that some consider old news is instructive. Howard Dean questioned then candidate Scott Walker’s qualifications to be President because of Walker’s lack of a college degree. “Were (Walker) to become President,” said Dean, “(he) would be the first in many generations that did not have a college degree … The issue is how well-educated is this guy? And that’s a problem.”
Well, for the sake of argument, let’s admit that Howard Dean’s premise has some merit. Let’s assume he’s right: that one’s education does matter and that, as Richard Weaver wrote in 1948 (ironically the same year of Mr. Dean’s birth), ideas do have consequences; that it all starts with education; that good ideas lead to good beliefs, good behavior, good culture and good government; and that bad ideas lead to bad beliefs, bad behavior, bad culture and bad government. Let’s assume that education does have a consequence and a predictable outcome. And let’s also assume that we would be wise to take a look at the ideas our colleges have taught for the 67 years since Weaver’s seminal publication and Howard Dean’s birthday.
For example, Mr. Dean:
For 67 years we’ve sent our kids off to sit under the tutelage of faculty who have panned a Judeo-Christian ethic and praised its antithesis. Are we surprised we now have a White House that is seemingly more aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood than with Franklin Graham?
For 67 years we’ve taught our next generation “it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as it works for you.” Are we surprised that we now see a total lack of moral clarity in our national leaders and that these people who were taught to despise the Church and its standards now behave like cads, cheats, frauds, and fakes?
For 67 years we’ve told our youth that there is a “moral equivalency” between America and its enemies and implied that our nation is bad and the rest of the world is right to hate us and we have instructed our students to laugh at those who warned of Communism and government largesse. For 67 years college professors have said that Marxism has its merits and that liberation theology is the only “good religion,” that socialism is better than free enterprise and that capitalism is the cause of crime. For 67 years we have fomented class resentment, racism and entitlement. For 67 years professors have preached that pastors and priests are stupid. For 67 years we have fed our kids a diet of moral nihilism and instructed our boys and girls to use a condom rather than obey God’s Commandments.
Why are we surprised in what we see in today’s news? Our judges can’t find the word “marriage” in the dictionary. Our state department thinks the way to stop terrorists is to give them jobs. Our President says he appreciates the “legitimate grievances” of the terrorists who are crucifying children.
Why are we surprised to see tens of millions of women buying the lie of 50 Shades of Grey when colleges have been promoting “sex weeks” on campuses across the land and teaching these same women the virtues of bondage, and dominance for the past several decades?
Yes, education is “a problem.” Ideas do have consequences and the lousy ideas we have been teaching in our colleges and universities for the past several decades are bearing themselves out daily before our eyes. But with all due respect to Governor Dean, I would rather have a President who hasn’t been indoctrinated by this vacuous nonsense than one who has. I would rather have a President with no degree who knows he’s not God than one with a degree who thinks he is.
The solution to this absurdity is found in the historical liberal arts academy; of classical “liberalism” and its assumption of freedom, liberty, and liberation. It is the foundational assumptions of the Bible: that there are ideas that are right and just and true and that only in trusting in such Truth will mankind ever be set free.
Education is not about opinions. I don’t pat you on the back when you graduate from OKWU and say, “Congratulations! You now have a degree in opinions!” That would be absurd. I frankly don’t care what your opinion is and you shouldn’t care that much about mine. Opinions are always dangerous. Opinions always lead to slavery and bondage. Pol Pot had an opinion. Robespierre had an opinion. Lenin, Moa, Mussolini, Hitler, Chavez, and Castro – all the despots of history – had opinions and it didn’t end well.
Freedom trusts in Principles rather than people, power, politics or opinions. Freedom honors the debate because it knows there is an Answer.
As, G.K. Chesterton told us, if you get rid of the big Laws, you don’t get liberty but rather thousands and thousands of little laws. Without Law you have no liberty. Without respecting Law it is impossible to be a self-respecting “liberal.”
Freedom – true and lasting freedom – is not found in the hubris of man but rather in words of Christ: “You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free.”
I have not used my entire 18 minutes allotted so I am going to conclude by changing gears in a bit in a way that perhaps drives home the point of my presentation better than any other – The way of prayer…
Please join me as I close:
Father, as we gather here today as members of the World Congress of Families we remember that you have told us that if your people will humble themselves and seek your face and repent, you will hear us and heal us. You have also said that if we confess our sins you are faithful and just and you will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God, we bow before you today. We are humble. We repent. Please hear our prayer. Please, forgive us…
Forgive us for what we have taught our children. For teaching them that evil is good and good is evil, that darkness is light and light is darkness, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter, that left is right and right is wrong, and that true is false and falsehood is true.
Forgive us for making justice unjust and injustice just. Forgive us for celebrating lies rather than pursuing truth.
Forgive us, for teaching values clarification more effective than that we have virtue. Forgive us for diminishing the value of marital fidelity and leaving our kids clueless as to how to defend the definition of marriage. Forgive us for dumbing down the definition of a human being to nothing but the sum total of his or her sexual inclinations; to nothing but appetites, proclivities and passions.
Forgive us for leading the generation that follows us to believe it has the authority to define life for the generation that follows it.
Forgive us for our narcissism: For proclaiming we are “as God;” that “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for and that we are the change we seek.” Forgive us for being a people who are more arrogant than we are humble and more proud than we are principled.
Forgive us for our self-refuting duplicity of pedantically preaching that the tolerant do not tolerate those they find intolerable. Forgive us for the hypocrisy of hating those we find hateful.
Forgive us for boasting of freedom while yet living in bondage to our own deception.
Forgive us for separating head from heart and fact from faith, and for severing belief from behavior and religion from reason. Forgive us for the foolishness of expecting cultural sanity while removing our culture’s soul.
Forgive us for worshiping government more than God.
Today, we ask you to forgive us, Father.
We humbly petition you to grant a reprieve of your judgment. Please rescue us from the ugly hell of our own making and give us liberty within the bounds of your law and free us from the bondage of our licentiousness. In the days ahead, please give us the wisdom to promote your “self-evident” truths over and above our self-serving agendas.
In the name Christ and not Caesar we pray: God, please hear us, heal us and forgive us.
The Book of Mormon invites
the twelve tribes of Israel
to believe the gospel.
“Therefore I write unto you, Gentiles,
and also unto you, house of Israel,
when the work shall commence,
that ye shall be about to prepare to return
to the land of your inheritance;
Yea, behold, I write unto all the ends of the earth;
yea, unto you, twelve tribes of Israel,
who shall be judged according to your works
by the twelve whom Jesus chose to be his disciples
in the land of Jerusalem.
And I write also unto the remnant of this people,
who shall also be judged by the twelve
whom Jesus chose in this land;
and they shall be judged by the other twelve
whom Jesus chose in the land of Jerusalem.
And these things doth the Spirit manifest unto me;
therefore I write unto you all.
And for this cause I write unto you,
that ye may know that ye must all stand
before the judgment-seat of Christ,
yea, every soul who belongs to the whole human family of Adam;
and ye must stand to be judged of your works,
whether they be good or evil;
And also that ye may believe the gospel of Jesus Christ,
which ye shall have among you;
and also that the Jews,
the covenant people of the Lord,
shall have other witness besides him
whom they saw and heard, that Jesus,
whom they slew,
was the very Christ and the very God.
And I would that I could persuade all ye ends of the earth
to repent and prepare to stand before the judgment-seat of Christ.”

In follow up to my first “Don’t You See” Article, I invite you to watch this video which portrays how some of the scriptures were preserved for our day. Many individuals were called upon to make tremendous sacrifices, including jeopardizing their own lives, to preserve the scriptures we have today.
The video includes such accounts as William Tyndale, who suffered death for his unrelenting passion to bring common people the Holy Bible in the English language they knew; the courage of Moroni, a Book of Mormon prophet who was hunted for his unwavering determination to fulfill his destiny of completing the histories found on his gold plates, and Mary and Caroline Rollins who risked their lives to save pages of the Book of Commandments during the destruction of a printing press by an angry mob.
The first sweeping scene (below) shows Christ descending in a shaft of light to visit multitudes of Nephites who are streaming up a ramped earthen platform mound reminiscent of Monk’s Mound and the grand murals inside Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site – east of St. Louis, Missouri. The background is a vast plain with interspersed massive grass-covered mounds, wooden homes with thatched roofs and hardwood forests, while the foreground shows a large wooden temple atop a monumental ramped earth structure. The scene is one that is true to the Book of Mormon record, without stone pyramids or thick jungle vegetation since nowhere in the text is there any mention of stone buildings, palm trees, monkeys or a tropical climate. The voice of Elder D. Todd Christofferson narrates the scene saying, “We were not among the other sheep that Christ visited in America.”
The central purpose of scriptures is with faith
to bring us closer to our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The scriptures contain counsel from prophets
and inspired accounts of God’s dealing with people.
“The holy scriptures are the word of God given to us
for our salvation. The scriptures are essential in receiving
a testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel. …
These sacred records bear testimony of
the Savior and lead us to Him”
In Ancient Egyptian, in Ohio, is The Decalogue Stone.
Carved at the top of stone which reads,
“MOSES”. The man image is holding something.
Carved all around the stone and on the back in
Ancient Hebrew are
The Ten Commandments.
These were made by the Nephites, a people recorded in
The Book of Mormon
who left Jerusalem about 600 B.C., who took with them The Plates of Laban (containing genealogy and writings from the Old Testament.
This is before the New Testament was recorded and before the days of Constantine when many precious parts were taken out of the Bible.
The Book of Mormon, “for a wise purpose” has many of those missing parts.)
They built a ship and came to the promised land of North America.
They are the “other sheep” Jesus referred to in the Bible.
“What it boils down to is, the fact that it’s odd,
doesn’t mean it’s not genuine.
The problem with these artifacts is that
the academics don’t like them because
they don’t fit the paradigm.
And unfortunately for them,
you can’t dismiss things simply because
you don’t like them!
And so the evidence to me seems clear
there’s no reason not to accept these as
genuine legitimate artifacts.”
The Great Circle is a very special and sacred place where a temple of the Hopewell Mound builders once stood amidst the massive circular earthen enclosure.
This picture was taken on the mound that now covers the temple site.
“Is there evidence for the Book of Mormon?“
Millions have asked this question because the Book of Mormon is foundational to the Mormonfaith – more accurately known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. To learn more click HERE. Many have wondered what evidence has been found in its support, as the book asserts to be a record of ancient peoples that came by ship from the Old World region of Israel to the America’s where they developed into large and highly advanced civilizations with written language, walled cities, extensive roads, metal working, agriculture and a multitude of other sophisticated capabilities.
Some students of the Book of Mormon have speculated that the record is a history of the ancient peoples of Central or South America notwithstanding the fact that their record was recovered from a stone box in a hill near Palmyra, New York, USA and Church leaders have maintained for over 100 years that this was the location of that hill called “Cumorah.” (see Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation article HERE) Others have proposed the Great Lakes region of North America to be its lands. Robust new research, based on a multi-disciplinary approach, is now providing overwhelming evidence that this history is a record of Native American peoples who lived in what is today the Heartland of the United States on the continent of North America. This research begs the question, “Did the Book of Mormon take place in America’s Heartland?“
Secular evidence continues to mount that the Book of Mormon may have occurred in the Heartland of North America. This new research is offering unprecedented evidence of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Interestingly, much of this evidence is coming from non-Mormon secular sources, which is one of the many reasons why this research is so powerful and compelling.
Why is this important? Besides finally locating the actual places where the Book of Mormon peoples dwelt and took place, it adds to our already sure testimony that this is another witness that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It also verifies that this land of North America is “the promised land” promised by God and the place where many of the lost tribes of Israel went to after the Tower of Babel with the Jaredites, and the Nephites and Lamanites who are descendants from Jerusalem. These people also have recorded the visitation of Jesus Christ to America after His Resurrection where He said, “…and ye are they, when I said, other sheep I have which are not of this fold.”
The Book of Mormon was recorded on Gold Plates by appointed prophets and abridged by Moroni which were hidden up and then shown to Joseph Smith Jr. who translated them into what is now, The Book of Mormon. North America is not only the “Promised Land”, but it is where Jesus will once again return to the “New Jerusalem”, which is yet to be built, where He will dwell with us for a thousand years in peace. The Heartland of America was also the place of The Garden of Eden, Adam-ondi-Ahman, and the City of Enoch. It is the Promised Land!
Soon, because so much evidence is coming forth, we will know of a surety the truthfulness of these records of these people that they are true. It will also be revealed how our government and the Smithsonian destroyed thousands of mounds made by these ancient people from the Tower of Babel and Jerusalem just to destroy them and to prove they are only “heathens” in order to take their land from them. They killed most of their buffalo in an effort to starve them, leaving heaps of buffalo bones, and even offered them blankets infested with small pox!
Also, when our country was formed, our founding fathers made covenants with God, and God covenanted with us, that if we would keep His commandments and always remember Him, He would bring prosperity and protection to this promised land. If you are wondering why we are having so many challenges today just answer why we have taken prayer out of our schools and our nation. Also, take a good look at who is leading this country and liken them to the beginning of time when they took secret oaths, even as did those “conspiring men” of Gadianton who with secret oaths were continually over time out to destroy this country. These oaths are the same that Cain made with Satan when he killed Able in the beginning. The Book of Mormon warns of of this in these last days!
The truth is coming forth and a cleansing is forth coming preparing the way for Jesus!

Jesus Visits Jerusalem and North America After His Resurrection
Easter is the time of year when our hearts and minds are turned anew to our Savior, Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice. We want to send you our hope that this Easter will be a special, wonderful time for you as you reflect on His life, His teachings, and His sacrifice for you and all of us as you have a blessed Easter Sunday.
Just picture in your mind what it was like and what was felt by those who saw Jesus Christ crucified, and then also witnessed Him after He was resurrected.
We not only have record of it in the Bible, but also in the Book of Mormon when Jesus appeared to those in the new world of North America when He visited the Nephites among large earthen mounds and wooden structures of the Hopewell Mound Builders of the Heartland.
Jesus Christ did show himself unto the people of Nephi, as the multitude were gathered together in the land Bountiful, and did minister unto them; and on this wise did he show himself unto them.
“And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in hishands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.” 3 Nephi 11:15
The grass-covered massive mounds surrounded by Native American tee-pee’s and wooden palisade walls are distinctive to this highly advanced ancient civilization that matches closely the time-frames of the Book of Mormon‘s Nephite civilization, which flourished from 600 B.C. to 400 AD in the Heartland of North America. The final scene is one of incredible likeness to page 116 of Exploring the Book of Mormon in America’s Heartland book by Rod Meldrum.
In the end, the central purpose of all scripture is to fill our souls with faith in God the Father and in His Son, Jesus Christ — faith that they exist; faith in the Father’s plan for our immortality and eternal life; faith in the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Historical and scriptural accounts illustrating the faith of others serve to strengthen our own faith. We must study the scriptures carefully, deliberately, and ponder and pray over them. Scriptures are revelation, and they will bring added revelation. Surely with this blessing the Lord is telling us that our need for constant recourse to the scriptures is greater than in any previous time. May we feast continuously on the words of Christ that will tell us all things we should do.
May you have a blessed Easter Sunday. Enjoy this picture of ‘He Is Risen’, the latest painting, just announced by a friend and master artist Jon McNaughton that he completed just in time to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
About 600 B.C., records of a people who left Jerusalem were written and recorded by Prophets of God who were shown visions of our day. These people, with the guidance of Jesus, built a ship and came across the ocean to North America to a “promised land” which is now known as The United States of America.
Jesus spoke in the Bible of other sheep. In North America, He told these people, “Ye are they of whom I said: other sheep I have which are not of this fold.” These records document these events up until around 421 A.D. and contain many of the missing partsthat were taken out of the Bible during the days of Constantine, about 331 A.D., when the Bible was re-organized with many “precious parts” being left out of the Bible. God knew this and “for a wise purpose”, many of those missing parts were revealed to the prophets of these people. This is why this book is so important for us today.
This record of a people from Jerusalem was translated into what is known today as The Book of Mormon. It contains prophecies and revelations about our day and what is to take place when Jesus Christ returns to us once again. It speaks of what is yet to come in these The Last Days. These things are important to know as they help reduce the fear of the unknown and verifies the purpose and validity of God’s love for us and the role that Jesus Christ plays in each of our lives.
Agency is the ability and privilege God gives us to choose and to act for ourselves. Agency is essential in the plan of salvation. Without agency, we would not be able to learn or progress or follow the Savior. With it, we are “free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil” (2 Nephi 2:27).
Agency allows us to be tested and tried to see whether or not we will endure to the end and return to our Heavenly Father with honor. Agency permits us to make faithful, obedient choices that strengthen us so that we can lift and strengthen others. So just . . .
But behold, there shall be many—at that day when I shall proceed to do amarvelous work among them, that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men, that I may set my hand again the second time to recover my people, which are of the house of Israel;
And also, that I may remember the promises which I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy father, that I would remember your seed; and that the words of your seed should proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed; and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel;
And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible.
But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles?
O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people.
Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?
Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my wordunto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.
And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my wordsaccording to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever.
Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose
that it contains all mywords; neither need ye suppose
that I have not caused more to be written. For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works,
according to that which is written.
For behold, I shall speak unto the Jewsand they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it.
And it shall come to pass that theJews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews; and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews.
And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that Icovenanted with Abrahamthat I would remember his seedforever.
David’s Psalms, and the Psalms generally, breathe the highest spirit of prayer. The nation that possessed them must have been rich in teachers and examples of prayer. Remarkable prayers were prayed by Solomon (1 Kgs. 8); Hezekiah (2 Kgs. 19:14, etc.; Isa. 38:9, etc.);Ezra (Ezra 9:5); the Levites (Neh. 9:5, etc.); and Daniel (Dan. 9:3, etc.).
“Making many prayers” was a part of the corrupt religion of Israel under the later kings
(Isa. 1:15), and a marked feature of the religion of the Pharisees (Matt. 6:5; 23:14).
