In follow up to my first “Don’t You See” Article, I invite you to watch this video which portrays how some of the scriptures were preserved for our day. Many individuals were called upon to make tremendous sacrifices, including jeopardizing their own lives, to preserve the scriptures we have today.
The video includes such accounts as William Tyndale, who suffered death for his unrelenting passion to bring common people the Holy Bible in the English language they knew; the courage of Moroni, a Book of Mormon prophet who was hunted for his unwavering determination to fulfill his destiny of completing the histories found on his gold plates, and Mary and Caroline Rollins who risked their lives to save pages of the Book of Commandments during the destruction of a printing press by an angry mob.
The first sweeping scene (below) shows Christ descending in a shaft of light to visit multitudes of Nephites who are streaming up a ramped earthen platform mound reminiscent of Monk’s Mound and the grand murals inside Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site – east of St. Louis, Missouri. The background is a vast plain with interspersed massive grass-covered mounds, wooden homes with thatched roofs and hardwood forests, while the foreground shows a large wooden temple atop a monumental ramped earth structure. The scene is one that is true to the Book of Mormon record, without stone pyramids or thick jungle vegetation since nowhere in the text is there any mention of stone buildings, palm trees, monkeys or a tropical climate. The voice of Elder D. Todd Christofferson narrates the scene saying, “We were not among the other sheep that Christ visited in America.”
The central purpose of scriptures is with faith
to bring us closer to our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The scriptures contain counsel from prophets
and inspired accounts of God’s dealing with people.
“The holy scriptures are the word of God given to us
for our salvation. The scriptures are essential in receiving
a testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel. …
These sacred records bear testimony of
the Savior and lead us to Him”
In Ancient Egyptian, in Ohio, is The Decalogue Stone.
Carved at the top of stone which reads,
“MOSES”. The man image is holding something.
Carved all around the stone and on the back in
Ancient Hebrew are
The Ten Commandments.
These were made by the Nephites, a people recorded in
The Book of Mormon
who left Jerusalem about 600 B.C., who took with them The Plates of Laban (containing genealogy and writings from the Old Testament.
This is before the New Testament was recorded and before the days of Constantine when many precious parts were taken out of the Bible.
The Book of Mormon, “for a wise purpose” has many of those missing parts.)
They built a ship and came to the promised land of North America.
They are the “other sheep” Jesus referred to in the Bible.
“What it boils down to is, the fact that it’s odd,
doesn’t mean it’s not genuine.
The problem with these artifacts is that
the academics don’t like them because
they don’t fit the paradigm.
And unfortunately for them,
you can’t dismiss things simply because
you don’t like them!
And so the evidence to me seems clear
there’s no reason not to accept these as
genuine legitimate artifacts.”
The Great Circle is a very special and sacred place where a temple of the Hopewell Mound builders once stood amidst the massive circular earthen enclosure.
This picture was taken on the mound that now covers the temple site.
“Is there evidence for the Book of Mormon?“
Millions have asked this question because the Book of Mormon is foundational to the Mormonfaith – more accurately known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. To learn more click HERE. Many have wondered what evidence has been found in its support, as the book asserts to be a record of ancient peoples that came by ship from the Old World region of Israel to the America’s where they developed into large and highly advanced civilizations with written language, walled cities, extensive roads, metal working, agriculture and a multitude of other sophisticated capabilities.
Some students of the Book of Mormon have speculated that the record is a history of the ancient peoples of Central or South America notwithstanding the fact that their record was recovered from a stone box in a hill near Palmyra, New York, USA and Church leaders have maintained for over 100 years that this was the location of that hill called “Cumorah.” (see Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation article HERE) Others have proposed the Great Lakes region of North America to be its lands. Robust new research, based on a multi-disciplinary approach, is now providing overwhelming evidence that this history is a record of Native American peoples who lived in what is today the Heartland of the United States on the continent of North America. This research begs the question, “Did the Book of Mormon take place in America’s Heartland?“
Secular evidence continues to mount that the Book of Mormon may have occurred in the Heartland of North America. This new research is offering unprecedented evidence of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Interestingly, much of this evidence is coming from non-Mormon secular sources, which is one of the many reasons why this research is so powerful and compelling.
Why is this important? Besides finally locating the actual places where the Book of Mormon peoples dwelt and took place, it adds to our already sure testimony that this is another witness that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It also verifies that this land of North America is “the promised land” promised by God and the place where many of the lost tribes of Israel went to after the Tower of Babel with the Jaredites, and the Nephites and Lamanites who are descendants from Jerusalem. These people also have recorded the visitation of Jesus Christ to America after His Resurrection where He said, “…and ye are they, when I said, other sheep I have which are not of this fold.”
The Book of Mormon was recorded on Gold Plates by appointed prophets and abridged by Moroni which were hidden up and then shown to Joseph Smith Jr. who translated them into what is now, The Book of Mormon. North America is not only the “Promised Land”, but it is where Jesus will once again return to the “New Jerusalem”, which is yet to be built, where He will dwell with us for a thousand years in peace. The Heartland of America was also the place of The Garden of Eden, Adam-ondi-Ahman, and the City of Enoch. It is the Promised Land!
Soon, because so much evidence is coming forth, we will know of a surety the truthfulness of these records of these people that they are true. It will also be revealed how our government and the Smithsonian destroyed thousands of mounds made by these ancient people from the Tower of Babel and Jerusalem just to destroy them and to prove they are only “heathens” in order to take their land from them. They killed most of their buffalo in an effort to starve them, leaving heaps of buffalo bones, and even offered them blankets infested with small pox!
Also, when our country was formed, our founding fathers made covenants with God, and God covenanted with us, that if we would keep His commandments and always remember Him, He would bring prosperity and protection to this promised land. If you are wondering why we are having so many challenges today just answer why we have taken prayer out of our schools and our nation. Also, take a good look at who is leading this country and liken them to the beginning of time when they took secret oaths, even as did those “conspiring men” of Gadianton who with secret oaths were continually over time out to destroy this country. These oaths are the same that Cain made with Satan when he killed Able in the beginning. The Book of Mormon warns of of this in these last days!
The truth is coming forth and a cleansing is forth coming preparing the way for Jesus!

Jesus Visits Jerusalem and North America After His Resurrection
Easter is the time of year when our hearts and minds are turned anew to our Savior, Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice. We want to send you our hope that this Easter will be a special, wonderful time for you as you reflect on His life, His teachings, and His sacrifice for you and all of us as you have a blessed Easter Sunday.
Just picture in your mind what it was like and what was felt by those who saw Jesus Christ crucified, and then also witnessed Him after He was resurrected.
We not only have record of it in the Bible, but also in the Book of Mormon when Jesus appeared to those in the new world of North America when He visited the Nephites among large earthen mounds and wooden structures of the Hopewell Mound Builders of the Heartland.
Jesus Christ did show himself unto the people of Nephi, as the multitude were gathered together in the land Bountiful, and did minister unto them; and on this wise did he show himself unto them.
“And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in hishands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.” 3 Nephi 11:15
The grass-covered massive mounds surrounded by Native American tee-pee’s and wooden palisade walls are distinctive to this highly advanced ancient civilization that matches closely the time-frames of the Book of Mormon‘s Nephite civilization, which flourished from 600 B.C. to 400 AD in the Heartland of North America. The final scene is one of incredible likeness to page 116 of Exploring the Book of Mormon in America’s Heartland book by Rod Meldrum.
In the end, the central purpose of all scripture is to fill our souls with faith in God the Father and in His Son, Jesus Christ — faith that they exist; faith in the Father’s plan for our immortality and eternal life; faith in the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Historical and scriptural accounts illustrating the faith of others serve to strengthen our own faith. We must study the scriptures carefully, deliberately, and ponder and pray over them. Scriptures are revelation, and they will bring added revelation. Surely with this blessing the Lord is telling us that our need for constant recourse to the scriptures is greater than in any previous time. May we feast continuously on the words of Christ that will tell us all things we should do.
May you have a blessed Easter Sunday. Enjoy this picture of ‘He Is Risen’, the latest painting, just announced by a friend and master artist Jon McNaughton that he completed just in time to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
About 600 B.C., records of a people who left Jerusalem were written and recorded by Prophets of God who were shown visions of our day. These people, with the guidance of Jesus, built a ship and came across the ocean to North America to a “promised land” which is now known as The United States of America.
Jesus spoke in the Bible of other sheep. In North America, He told these people, “Ye are they of whom I said: other sheep I have which are not of this fold.” These records document these events up until around 421 A.D. and contain many of the missing partsthat were taken out of the Bible during the days of Constantine, about 331 A.D., when the Bible was re-organized with many “precious parts” being left out of the Bible. God knew this and “for a wise purpose”, many of those missing parts were revealed to the prophets of these people. This is why this book is so important for us today.
This record of a people from Jerusalem was translated into what is known today as The Book of Mormon. It contains prophecies and revelations about our day and what is to take place when Jesus Christ returns to us once again. It speaks of what is yet to come in these The Last Days. These things are important to know as they help reduce the fear of the unknown and verifies the purpose and validity of God’s love for us and the role that Jesus Christ plays in each of our lives.
Agency is the ability and privilege God gives us to choose and to act for ourselves. Agency is essential in the plan of salvation. Without agency, we would not be able to learn or progress or follow the Savior. With it, we are “free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil” (2 Nephi 2:27).
Agency allows us to be tested and tried to see whether or not we will endure to the end and return to our Heavenly Father with honor. Agency permits us to make faithful, obedient choices that strengthen us so that we can lift and strengthen others. So just . . .
But behold, there shall be many—at that day when I shall proceed to do amarvelous work among them, that I may remember my covenants which I have made unto the children of men, that I may set my hand again the second time to recover my people, which are of the house of Israel;
And also, that I may remember the promises which I have made unto thee, Nephi, and also unto thy father, that I would remember your seed; and that the words of your seed should proceed forth out of my mouth unto your seed; and my words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth, for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel;
And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible.
But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles?
O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people.
Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?
Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my wordunto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?
Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.
And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my wordsaccording to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever.
Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose
that it contains all mywords; neither need ye suppose
that I have not caused more to be written. For I command all men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works,
according to that which is written.
For behold, I shall speak unto the Jewsand they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it.
And it shall come to pass that theJews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews; and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews.
And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that Icovenanted with Abrahamthat I would remember his seedforever.
David’s Psalms, and the Psalms generally, breathe the highest spirit of prayer. The nation that possessed them must have been rich in teachers and examples of prayer. Remarkable prayers were prayed by Solomon (1 Kgs. 8); Hezekiah (2 Kgs. 19:14, etc.; Isa. 38:9, etc.);Ezra (Ezra 9:5); the Levites (Neh. 9:5, etc.); and Daniel (Dan. 9:3, etc.).
“Making many prayers” was a part of the corrupt religion of Israel under the later kings
(Isa. 1:15), and a marked feature of the religion of the Pharisees (Matt. 6:5; 23:14).
Nevertheless, my work shall go forth, for inasmuch as the knowledge of a Savior has come unto the world, through the testimony of the Jews, (the Bible)
… even so shall the knowledge of a Savior come unto my people. — And to the Nephites, and the Jacobites, and the Josephites, and the Zoramites, through the testimony of their fathers— (The Book of Mormon)
And this testimony shall come to the knowledge of the Lamanites, and the Lemuelites, and the Ishmaelites, who dwindled in unbelief because of the iniquity of their fathers, whom the Lord has suffered to destroy their brethren the Nephites, because of their iniquities and their abominations.
And that the Lamanites might come to the knowledge of their fathers, and that they might know the promises of the Lord, and that they may believe the gospel and rely upon the merits of Jesus Christ, and be glorified through faith in his name, and that through their repentance they might be saved. Amen.
The Lamanites (Native Americans) left Jerusalem about 600 B.C. and came to North America as recorded in the Book of Mormon. Because their fathers dwindled in unbelief and because of iniquity and in trying to destroy their brothers the Nephites, the Lord Jesus Christ made promises to them; that the gold plates would come forth and reveal the knowledge of their fathers and of Jesus Christ and that they would believe. (As contained in The Book of Mormon.)
Is America worth trying to save? Save from what you might ask. Is America worth saving from self-destruction? Maybe that’s a better question to ask.
Civilizations have risen and fallen through the ages. Countries have been birthed and countries have died. I believe the United States of America was birthed by the God of the Bible primarily for the purpose of advancing the gospel of Jesus Christ both here and around the world unlike any other country in history.
Even before we won our independence from England, the Christian faith had begun to spread like wildfire across the land. My dad, a Methodist minister, used to tell me stories about the legendary circuit riders who later traveled on horseback to evangelize the new nation. These men would brave whatever was in front of them to carry the message of Jesus Christ throughout the New World. Other denominations trail blazed the gospel as well and soon our country became recognized both here and abroad as a distinctively Christian nation. The evidence was so overwhelming that in 1892 the Supreme Court wrote in the case Church of the Holy Trinity v The United States: “These, and many other matters which might be noticed, add a volume of unofficial declarations to the mass of organic utterances that this is a Christian nation.”
Our country has known freedom for the individual unlike any other country in history. Quite frankly, the idea was novel that people could govern themselves. In order for freedom to be sustained the masses had to be willing to act morally and lawfully by their own volition or else society would crumble from within. Thus wrote our second president John Adams: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” The Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount were how we judged good and evil, right and wrong. Some of that still remains, but respect for those teachings and reverence for the God who spoke them is deteriorating at a very rapid rate.
In modern day America, there is very little shame anymore. Most Americans have lost their fear of God. We are on the road to self-destruction.
Secularists mock the idea of God. Judges forbid even the acknowledgement of God in many public places. We teach our children they come from monkeys. Those who hold to the biblical definition of marriage are called hatemongers. The entertainment industry promotes sex without moral standards day after day, movie after movie, song after song – influencing our youth beyond measure. Try to raise any objection to this tide of immorality and you are quickly shouted down, ridiculed, called a prude, a hater, a religious nut, a censor or a fundamentalist.
What we are experiencing today in America is unbridled selfishness and licentiousness and the results are manifesting themselves in many terrible ways that will only get worse if things don’t change.
For the Christian in America today there is only so much we can do. Only 43% of our fellow countrymen even go to church today. We are now outnumbered. But that which we can do, with God’s help, we must do. We can pray to God that He send revival to America. We can continue to build strong Christian families. We can put our denominational barriers aside when there are shared values we can defend concerning issues that affect the moral health of our nation. We can share our faith. We can continue to hold high the standard of righteousness and we can vote for candidates who best reflect our values. There are no perfect candidates, but we are a nation of laws so we must elect the best available lawmakers to govern us and hold them accountable.
So to answer my own question, yes, America is worth trying to save. For our children, grandchildren and generations to come. We cannot give up. There is nowhere else to start over. There is nowhere else to where we can sail!
