The Voice Of John – The Movie

Nurse Tells Story of Baby Born After Failed Abortion.

On November 4 of 2012, a new pro-life documentary – The Voice of John – was released. This film discussed the reality of babies born alive after abortions as well as evidence of atrocities that occur with far too much regularity in the abortion industry. In The Voice of John, the humanity of the unborn will be made real in yet one more way for the world to see, as “one small voice will speak for millions.”

“John” is not a make-believe person or a fantasy. He is a real baby, who survived an abortion and was then left to die by medical professionals. The movie’s site details the true story behind The Voice of John:

In 1977, a young nurse was working in an obstetrics unit of a major veteran’s hospital, stumbled upon a LIVE baby, placed in a ‘dirty utility room,’ left to die! What she did not realize is that Roe vs. Wade had just been passed by the U.S. Supreme Court and this atrocity was indeed legal! The staff in the facility reprimanded her as she tried to explain that a baby was alive and placed on a cold metal table and left to die! Against their instruction, she held that baby in her arms and listened to his soft whimpering cries for survival. She held the child, baptized him, and said, ‘I name you John, and I will tell the world what I saw here today. I will be your voice!’

Thirty-five years later, Maryann Lawhon will hold true to her promise as River Song Productions presents…’The Voice of John.’

The Voice of John will featured former Governor Mike Huckabee, former Planned Parenthood director and current president of And Then There Were None Abby Johnson, Father Frank Pavone, scientist Ken Ham, multiple members of the U.S. Congress, medical experts, abortion survivors, women who have had abortions, and former abortion doctors like Carol EverettThe Voice of John takes a look at abortion through a prism of countless angles, opinions, and stories that will bring the real truth to light.

the family

The documentary’s producer shares one of the main purposes behind this film: to convince the church as a whole to act on the issue of abortion:

This film was designed to be an forensic educational production that will not only expose the truth about this senseless killings but show to goodness and forgiveness that we all have through our Lord Jesus Christ. For we learn in Luke 6:37 we see: ‘Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven’. (NIV) Yet statistics show Women identifying themselves as Protestants obtain 37.4% of all abortions in the U.S.; Catholic women account for 31.3%, Jewish women account for 1.3%, and women with no religious affiliation obtain 23.7% of all abortions. 18% of all abortions are performed on women who identify themselves as ‘Born-again/Evangelical’. (says Dorothy Guyton of dirt2diamonds.blogspot.com)

A new study by The Center For Reason (www.CenterForReason.com) finds that Christians have just as many abortions as their non-Christian counterparts. The study concludes that in the year 2000, Christians were responsible for 570,000 abortions. Catholics were found to be the worst offenders, with abortion rates higher than the national average. (www.centerforreason.com) We have a lot of work to do but it’s not all done on the streets of this great nation. It needs to be done right inside our own church walls. The church can no longer be silent, and then come to ‘life’ every January and every other November, and say ‘We are Pro-Life’ Of the 70 million Christians in the US about 3.5 m or about 5% are involved in the Pro-life movement in some way. Until we realize that abortion is a bigger symptom of the real problem, we cannot see an end in sight.

Five percent of Christians is clearly not enough. More Christians must stand against abortion and stand up for the innocent. Without question, abortion must be spoken about from our pulpits and in our pews. We must speak with truth and compassion, with love and courage. We must determine that we will not stop until every life is saved and every silenced voice – like John’s – is heard. This is the call that has been put on Christians, and we must answer it.

Yet this is not a film for just Christians. The Voice of John is a wake-up call to the nation as a whole. Despite your religious affiliation – or lack of it – and despite your involvement on either side of the abortion issue, and despite your current beliefs, this documentary is a must-see. We must individually wake up to the truth and choose to stand up for innocent lives. We must choose to forgive, and not condemn. Christians must choose to live like Christians, not just claim to be Christians.

Watch The Voice of John, weep with the reality of millions of innocent lives lost, and then get up out of your chair and do something to end the slaughter.

Aligning Her Voting With Her Christian Faith

the family

A couple of days ago, God gave the people what they wanted.  This heated election season is over.  We have our president.  The people passed over Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate, and overwhelming lent their support for Obama and the Democrat agenda.

I can understand the peoples support for the Democrat Party.  Much of what they say they stand for sounds moral and compassionate, especially concerning the poor and minority populations.  Yet, my convictions and research eventually led me to reject the Democrat ideology, preferring to side with people and political parties more aligned with the morals and values consistent with my Christian faith.

I used to be a Democrat, but I am no longer.  I am a registered Republican.  Not because I thought the Republican Party was so righteous, but because there came a time in my life as a Democrat, that I could no longer reconcile my politics and my faith.

Since my faith supersedes everything else for me, I find that it is pure madness for me to vote for politicians who uphold policies that are in a direct conflict with my faith.  It is foolishness for me to vote against my own values and interests.  Christianity is more than a title for me, it is who I am and determines how I live and how I view the world.

Since I am not only a Christian, but a citizen of this nation, I have the right to share and debate my values and ideas, as does everyone else.  I am so proud that I can, with my vote, influence this nation in upholding godly principles and values.  I will continue to vote with the party and/or persons that supports what I interpret to be godly and biblical values—the Judeo Christian values that were engrafted into our constitution and laws—the values that made this nation the greatest nation on earth and have afforded people of EVERY faith, and people who claim to have NO faith, to live free and prosperous lives here.

Great nations have fallen because of grievous sins and ungodliness and America is not exempt.  In Scripture, when Israel was prosperous, it was not because of her own economic ingenious.  Israel was blessed when she obeyed God—when she as a nation loved what God loved, and hated what God hated.

The primary reasons why I reject the Democrat platform is because it has within it the most immoral and ungodly principles to guide this nation.  Our preference for this course for our nation is a sure sign that we as a nation have not rejected the Republican Party, per se, but we have rejected God.  Just like in the days of Samuel, when the Israelites demanded that Samuel “appoint them a king,” God told Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me.”

Rejecting God will be, as our enemies would say, death to America.  It is our flat out refusal to love what God loves and detest what He detests that will drive this nation over a moral and economic cliff.

Even though I adamantly reject the Democrats historic racist position concerning black Americans, racism is but one sin.  As a Christian, I cannot reconcile my faith with the Democrat’s support of socialism, re-defining marriage, and abortion.

President Obama “impressively” won 93% of the black vote!  I am black, but I am among the 7% who did not lend Obama my support.  What may be perplexing to some is that blacks are overwhelmingly conservative in their moral values and convictions, so their support of the Democrat Party seems inconsistent.  Yet, for these black Christians, they believe that the Republican Party perpetuates the “unforgivable” sins of racism and oppression of the poor.  Jesus, they say, admonishes us to care for the “least of these” in society.  Never mind what history confirms about the Democrats, these Christians believe that it is the Republicans that are perpetuating hatred and discrimination against so many that have less pigment and/or estrogen than they do.  I understand the argument.  I lived the argument.  I believed the accusations that are waged against Republicans; accusations that Republicans have done so poorly to defend themselves against.

To the “black liberation theology” prodigies, it is the “black man” that must receive it’s just dues from its evil white oppressors that have kept blacks trapped in failing schools, in crime ridden neighborhoods, and without job skills and an education that would make them employable.  These evil white oppressors may once have been Southern Democrats and the Ku Klux Klan, but now they are Republicans.

This is what many blacks believe about Republicans.  And though you show them proof of otherwise, they will find you tons of revisionist historical literature to defend their past oppressors, the Democrats.

I have been told by a few of my black Christian friends concerning this election that God has upheld the “black man” in righteousness and protected him from the “haters.”  I want people to really get this and understand. Obama is not president because he is righteous. There is NOTHING righteous about Obama’s support for child killing, sodomy, covetousness, and idolatry.  His black skin does not make him right for black people.  Obama does not share the values of most blacks and his policies hurt the people he claims he wants to help.

BUT, what God has said in his Word is coming to pass. Christians are aligning themselves with lawlessness and ungodliness.  And because Obama is black, many blacks and others choose not to acknowledge how far into abomination that Obama has taken them.  They choose to overlook and ignore what God says in his Word concerning the moral and economic issues we face as a nation, choosing instead to side with Obama’s words over God’s Word:

“Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

God has PROMISED to judge in righteousness and has often used ungodly rulers to execute his judgment. Surely America will be judged for her grievous sins that go up daily as a stench in the nostrils of a holy God. I just pray that God has mercy upon this nation and upon us all.

I have also been told to “get over it” and not be a sore loser.  I am told to pray for our president because that is what we as Christians are suppose to do, because everything is in God’s hand anyways.  True, God is in control.  Obama is president by God’s permissive will.

But I am not so convinced that if Mitt Romney had won the presidency, black Christians would be praying for him as they tell me to do for Obama.  Instead I believe that we would continue to hear from the leftist liberals the same old tirade of rants about racism that we have been hearing for the past few months; and hearing blacks call Mitt Romney out for being the “racist that he is” and fearing that he will bring back Jim Crow.

In fact, I don’t remember the black Christian community praying for Bush or any other president the way they do for Obama.  In fact, I remember some pretty fancy and ungodly words and terms used to describe President George W. Bush.  I won’t repeat them here.

Regardless of this, I WILL pray for our president.  I will pray that he repents and turns to God, and leads this nation in the path of righteousness.  I pray that he surrounds himself with godly counsel and does not shun and mock the Word of God.

I pray for his success.

BUT, his success should not be measured in how many people he can put on foodstamps, but how many people his policies free from foodstamps.  His success should not be measured in how many poverty programs he enacts, but in how many poverty programs he needs to eliminate because Americans are working and successful.  His success should be measured not by how many women he gives access and money to have abortions, but how many abortion clinics need to be shut down because their services are no longer needed.  His success should be measured not in how much wealth he can redistribute, but how much wealth he can help individuals and businesses generate; thereby keeping America the most prosperous and generous nation on earth.   I want Obama to have success because his success is America’s success.

And for the record, I don’t hate Democrats, but I do hate the policies and ideas they have aligned themselves with.  I really have a problem with the way the Democrats “pimp” the poor.  Yeah, I said it!  They are poverty pimps and they use the poor as pawns.  They stir up envy and hatred among the poor and pit them against the rich, causing the poor to covet and vote for politicians who will steal from the wealthy and give it to them.  They vote for politicians that will “punish” big business, but in the end, it is these job creators that have to lay-off workers, raise prices, send jobs overseas, or shut their doors–ultimately hurting the poor and increasing the poverty base.

I won’t go on much more, but “redistribution of wealth” and “paying your fair share,” are rooted in covetousness and there is no biblical foundation to justify our government stealing from one family to give to another.  Unless under your immediate or parental care, no one should be forced to pay for another’s health insurance, home, car, education, food, clothing or anything else.  Redistribution of wealth eventually leads to redistribution of poverty because ultimately everyone will be equal, but they will be equally poor.

Some of the current issues in the forefront of the divisions between Democrats and Republicans are non-negotiable for me.  Though they are far from perfect and in need of some soul searching themselves, I admire the historic position and legacy of the Republican Party for championing the rights of women, blacks, and the poor.  This is part of the reason they still have my support.  We as a party have some work to do.  But the reason I choose not to vote Democrat has little to do with the fact that they are the party of Jim Crow and the KKK, but that today they are on the wrong side of the EVERY ISSUE that matters to me most.  “Choice,” “Reproductive Rights,” “Marriage Equality,” “Fair Share,” are all repackaged code names for the same age old sins: “child-killing,” “sodomy,” and “covetousness.”  Nothing new under the sun.

Chastity

Chastity
the family

Your Heavenly Father loves you and wants you to be happy today and forever. He has given counsel and commandments through His prophets to help you. One commandment that is vital to your peace and happiness is His commandment regarding sexual purity, known as the law of chastity. The Lord instituted this law from the beginning, and He emphasized its importance to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Obedience to this commandment is a requirement for baptism in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

What Is the Law of Chastity?

the familyPhysical intimacy between husband and wife is a beautiful and sacred part of God’s plan for His children. It is an expression of love within marriage and allows husband and wife to participate in the creation of life. God has commanded that this sacred power be expressed only between a man and a woman who are legally married. The law of chastity applies to both men and women. It includes strict abstinence from sexual relations before marriage and complete fidelity and loyalty to one’s spouse after marriage.

In addition to reserving sexual intimacy for marriage, we obey the law of chastity by controlling our thoughts, words, and actions. Jesus Christ taught, “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart” (Matt. 5: 27-28).

The law of chastity requires that sexual relations be reserved for marriage between a man and a woman.

Why Should I Keep the Law of Chastity?

Your Heavenly Father has given the law of chastity tothe family protect and bless you. Like all sacred things, physical intimacy must be expressed according to God’s direction. As you keep the law of chastity, you will enjoy happiness, peace, and self-respect. You will enjoy trust and confidence in your family relation- ships, and you will be blessed with self-control. You will enjoy the blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the influence of the Holy Ghost.

Satan leads people to believe that sexual intimacy outside of marriage is acceptable and even desirable. But it is a serious sin; God has always taught His chil- dren to be virtuous and chaste (see Ex. 20: 14 and Alma 39: 3-5). This principle is eternal.

Violating the law of chastity is an abuse of the power God has given to create life; it shows a disregard for Him and for His children. It dulls spirituality and often leads to bitterness, heartache, divorce, disease, and abortion. Those who violate this law are exposed to greater influence from Satan. This sin also seriously affects family members and others.

How Do I Keep the Law of Chastity?

the family

God requires a high moral standard of His children. To keep the law of chastity, you must replace undesirable thoughts, words, and actions with wholesome ones.

The following principles will help:

Thoughts. Positive and constructive thoughts will push negative or immoral ones from your life. As you fill your life with whole- some thoughts and activities, you will grow in your ability to replace and overcome negative thoughts. Reading the scriptures, serving your family, working diligently, and engaging in wholesome recreational activities will help you control your thoughts.

Avoid pornography in all forms. It is addictive and destructive. It will rob you of your self-respect and of an appreciation for the beauties of life. Do not allow your mind to dwell on obscene or immoral thoughts or images. Do not view, read, or listen to anything that depicts or describes the human body or sexual conduct in a disrespectful way. Avoid looking with lustful thoughts at others, and avoid suggestive or explicit movies, television shows, Internet sites, music, books, magazines, and activities.

Words. Let your words build up others and strengthen them. Eliminate degrading, vulgar, and sexually explicit words, jokes, and themes from your conversations.

Actions. Always treat others with respect. Be modest in how you dress. If you remember that each person is a child of God, and if you do all you can to help others follow His plan, then you will be strengthened in your desire to keep the law of chastity.

Determine now that you will not do anything outside of marriage to arouse the powerful emotions that must be expressed only in marriage. Do not arouse those emotions in another person or in yourself. Do not participate in homosexual or lesbian acts or other immoral activities. Replace activities where you may be tempted to violate the law of chastity with constructive activities and hobbies. In marriage, remain absolutely faithful to your spouse in thought and action.

Because living the law of chastity will bring you closer to God, Satan will entice you to break this commandment. He knows when you are lonely, confused, or depressed, and he will tempt you when you are weak. Pray to your Heavenly Father for help, and He will give you strength to resist temptation (see 1 Cor. 10: 13). As you rely on Him and follow these principles, you will be able to overcome temptation.

Blessings of Living the Law of Chastity

the family

As you live the law of chastity, you will be more open to the influence of the Holy Ghost. With the guidance of the Holy Ghost, you will develop greater wisdom, face trials with greater courage, feel God’s support and direction in your life, and be an example to your family and others. The love you have for your spouse and loved ones will be deeper, richer, and more meaningful. You will experience greater peace of mind.

In the scriptures we learn that true happiness comes from obeying the commandments of God (see Mosiah 2: 41) and that “wickedness never was happi- ness” (Alma 41: 10).

If you have broken the law of chastity, God has made it possible for you to repent and become clean again. Repent now of any past transgressions, and commit to live this sacred law. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and true repentance, you can be forgiven and feel peace.

Planned Parenthood and UNFPA Pushing Sexual Rights for Ten Year Olds

Planned Parenthood and UNFPA Pushing
Sexual Rights for Ten Year Olds

the family

Dear Supporters of the Family,

Today the battle began at the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD) over whether children as young as 10 years old have “sexual rights” with all the harm that entails.  The document to be negotiated during the conference entitled “Adolescents and Youth” seeks to give minors the same kind of autonomous rights as legal young adults.

Already the “Zero Draft,” which has not even been loaded yet with all the truly radical proposals from the developed nations, not only calls for “comprehensive sexuality education” for children as young as ten, among other things, but in the entire draft there is not one mention of the essential role that mothers, fathers, and families play in the lives of their children.

This document is expected to get worse as negotiations progress and rich western nations try to force their sexual agenda on the youth of developing countries.  The text’s obsessive focus on family planning and sexual and reproductive health shows the stamp of International Planned Parenthood Federation’s (IPPF) agenda.  In fact, I would not be surprised if IPPF and UNFPA jointly drafted this initial document.

Here are some excerpts from an IPPF document revealing what they plan to promote at this year’s Commission on Population and Development (bolding and bracketed comments added):

“We believe that young people [as young as 10] have the right to decide on matters concerning their sexual and reproductive health in line with their
evolving capacity, not their age.”

“We believe that where parental involvement in young people’s [10 year olds’] SRH [sexual and reproductive health] decision-making is mandated by law, young people feel less comfortable accessing services or information [read: contraception and abortion] from health professionals [read: Planned Parenthood clinics].”

“We believe that no young person should be forced by law to disclose
their sexual activity or relationship to anyone, including parents or
guardians.”

“We believe that parental consent and notification laws should be abolished.”

“We believe that young people [as young as 10] have the right to decide if, when and how to involve their parents or guardians in their SRH decision-making.”
“We believe that health professionals have a duty to uphold their young clients’ [age 10] right to privacy.”

“We believe that governments, health professionals and parents have a responsibility to ensure that young people [as young as age 10] are equipped and
empowered with the knowledge and skills that they require to exercise
their own rights and make autonomous decisions
 about their SRH.”

“We believe that the concept of evolving capacity is a useful concept for supporting young people’s SRH decision-making and should be used in place of strict age restrictions.”

International Planned Parenthood’s plan could be compared to a beer company trying to lower the legal drinking age to create more customers.   How does IPPF make millions of dollars?  By hooking kids on sex and then by selling them sex counseling, contraception, STD testing and abortion services.  It is understandable why they do not want any pesky parents getting in their way of providing these services to children who they claim are “evolving” in their sexual capacities.

Not to be out done by their ally, Planned Parenthood, UNFPA is conducting a survey (click here to see it) that asks among other things (italics added):

“Circle yes if national laws, regulations, and/or policies concerning gender based violence address the following: Hate crimes in relation to sexuality, sexual orientation and gender identity” (See 2.23)

“Are there national laws, regulations, and/ or policies that regulate the provision of comprehensive sexuality education in primary, secondary and higher education institutions and for adolescents not enrolled in school?”  [They want CSE legally mandated beginning in primary school.] (See 3.12)

“Circle yes if the national law, regulations and/or policies related to universal access to SRH include the following services: . . .Safe abortion services, Post abortion care. . .” (See 4.14)

“Are there national laws, regulations and/or policies criminalizing the following activity: Access to safe abortion, Consensual sexual activity outside of marriage, . . .Consensual same sex sexual activity, Sex work . . .”[The answer they are looking for is “no.”] (see 4.21)

We will have a full team at CPD the entire week helping UN member countries fight the sexual rights agenda.  If this CPD is anything like the past few years, we will be up all night fighting this fight to protect the innocence of children.

One urgent additional item: we need all the financial support we can get to continue this effort to protect the family.  Will you consider making a donation to support our work at CPD this year?  We urgently need your help.  Click here to make a donation easily and securely online.  Any amount will help, but if you are in a position to give generously, that would be a great help and support to our work.

Sincerely,

Children Out Of Wedlock

By on Mar 25 in Blog tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , | Comments Off

the familyMost of us know individuals who have had children out of wedlock.  When a woman realizes that she is having a child out of wedlock when she did not plan to do so, she may be confronted with many conflicting emotions and many decisions.  She may wonder what would be best for herself and for the baby; whom she should tell about her situation and when; and whether she should choose to keep the child and rear it herself, place the child for adoption, or consider an abortion.

Abortion of the unborn child may seem to be an option that will the familyerase any pending problems that unmarried parents anticipate.  However, The Proclamation affirms the sanctity of life and . . . its importance in God’s eternal plan.

Speaking of sexual intercourse outside marriage and the possibility of abortion, Elder Russell M. Nelson offered the following counsel:

“When a life is created by sinful behavior, the best way to begin personal repentance is to preserve the life of that child.  To add another serious sin to a serious sin already committed only compounds the grief.

Adoption is a wonderful alternative to abortion.  Bothe the baby and the adoptive parents can be greatly blessed by the adoption  of that baby into a home where the child will be lovingly nurtured and where the blessings of the gospel will be available.”

LDS Family Services counsels unwed parents from the perspective that abortion is not acceptable for personal or social convenience.  They can provide assistance to adoptive parents.

-The eggs of ducks and geese hatch in 28 days;

-those of the mallard in 35 days;

-The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days.

(Notice, they are all divisible by seven, the number of days in a week!)

the familyGod’s wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant. The four legs of this great beast all bend forward in the same direction. No other quadruped is so made. God planned that this animal would have a huge body, too large to live on two legs. For this reason He gave it four fulcrums so that it can rise from the ground easily.

The horse rises from the ground on its two the familyfront legs first. A cow rises from the ground with its two hind legs first. How wise the Lord is in all His works of creation!

God’s wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments, as well as in the number of grains.

-Each watermelon has an even number of stripes on the rind.

-Each orange has an even number of segments.

-Each ear of corn has an even number of rows.the family

-Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains.

-Every bunch of bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas, and each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and the next row an odd number.

-The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all Kinds of weather.the family

All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks, and the Lord Specified thirty fold, sixty fold and a hundredfold – all even numbers.

Thus the Lord in His wonderful grace can arrange the life that is Entrusted to His care in such a way that it will carry out His purposes and plans, and will be fragrant with His presence.

The lives of each of you may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way for His glory, if you will only entrust Him with your life. If you try to regulate your own life, it will only be a mess and a failure.

Life is present from the moment of conception.
(Dr. Jerome Lejeune, late professor and world renowned geneticist, University of Descarte, Paris.)

In today’s society, abortion has become a common practice, defended by deceptive arguments. Latter-day prophets have denounced abortion, referring to the Lord’s declaration, “Thou shalt not . . . kill, nor do anything like unto it” (D&C 59:6). Their counsel on the matter is clear: Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must not submit to, perform, encourage, pay for, or arrange for an abortion. Church members who encourage an abortion in any way may be subject to Church discipline.

Church leaders have said that some exceptional circumstances may justify an abortion, such as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth. But even these circumstances do not automatically justify an abortion. Those who face such circumstances should consider abortion only after consulting with their local Church leaders and receiving a confirmation through earnest prayer.

When a child is conceived out of wedlock, the best option is for the mother and father of the child to marry and work toward establishing an eternal family relationship. If a successful marriage is unlikely, they should place the child for adoption, preferably through LDS Family Services (see “Adoption”).

“Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.”   D&C 109: 8

Teaching Your Children The Law of Chastity

A Note to Parents:

This chapter includes some parts that are beyond the maturity of young children. It is best to wait until children are old enough to understand sexual relations and procreation before teaching them these parts of the chapter. Our Church leaders have told us that parents are responsible to teach their children about procreation (the process of conceiving and bearing children). Parents must also teach them the law of chastity, which is explained in this chapter.

Parents can begin teaching children to have proper attitudes toward their bodies when children are very young. Talking to children frankly but reverently and using the correct names for the parts and functions of their bodies will help them grow up without unnecessary embarrassment about their bodies.

Children are naturally curious. They want to know how their bodies work. They want to know where babies come from. If parents answer all such questions immediately and clearly so children can understand, children will continue to take their questions to their parents. However, if parents answer questions so that children feel embarrassed, rejected, or dissatisfied, they will probably go to someone else with their questions and perhaps get incorrect ideas and improper attitudes.

It is not wise or necessary, however, to tell children everything at once. Parents need only give them the information they have asked for and can understand. While answering these questions, parents can teach children the importance of respecting their bodies and the bodies of others. Parents should teach children to dress modestly. They should correct the false ideas and vulgar language that children learn from others.

By the time children reach maturity, parents should have frankly discussed procreation with them. Children should understand that these powers are good and were given to us by the Lord. He expects us to use them within the bounds He has given us.

Little children come to earth pure and innocent from Heavenly Father. As parents pray for guidance, the Lord will inspire them to teach children at the right time and in the right way.

The Power of Procreationthe family

• Why should parents teach their children about procreation and chastity? How can they appropriately do this?

God commanded each living thing to reproduce after its own kind (see Genesis 1:22). Reproduction was part of His plan so that all forms of life could continue to exist upon the earth.

Then He placed Adam and Eve on the earth. They were different from His other creations because they were His spirit children. In the Garden of Eden, He brought Adam and Eve together in marriage and commanded them to multiply and replenish the earth (see Genesis 1:28). However, their lives were to be governed by moral laws rather than by instinct.

God wanted His spirit children to be born into families so they could be properly cared for and taught. We, like Adam and Eve, are to provide physical bodies for these spirit children. The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of our church have stated, “We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed” (“The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 102). God has commanded us that only in marriage between a man and a woman are we to have sexual relations. This commandment is called the law of chastity.

The Law of Chastity

• What is the law of chastity?

We are to have sexual relations only with our spouse to whom we are legally married. No one, male or female, is to have sexual relations before marriage. After marriage, sexual relations are permitted only with our spouse.

To the Israelites the Lord said, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). Those Israelites who broke this commandment were subject to severe penalties. The Lord has repeated this commandment in the latter days (see D&C 42:24).

We have been taught that the law of chastity encompasses more than sexual intercourse. The First Presidency warned young people of other sexual sins:

“Before marriage, do not do anything to arouse the powerful emotions that must be expressed only in marriage. Do not participate in passionate kissing, lie on top of another person, or touch the private, sacred parts of another person’s body, with or without clothing. Do not allow anyone to do that with you. Do not arouse those emotions in your own body”.

“We believe that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God. We believe that marriage may be eternal through exercise of the power of the everlasting priesthood in the house of the Lord.

Satan Wants Us to Break the Law of Chastitythe family

• What are some ways Satan tempts people to break the law of chastity?

Satan’s plan is to deceive as many of us as he can to prevent us from returning to live with our Heavenly Father. One of the most damaging things he can do is entice us to break the law of chastity. He is cunning and powerful. He would like us to believe it is no sin to break this law. Many people have been deceived. We must guard ourselves against evil influences.

Satan attacks the standards of modesty. He wants us to believe that because the human body is beautiful, it is something to flaunt and expose. Our Heavenly Father wants us to keep our bodies covered so that we do not encourage improper thoughts in the minds of others.

Satan not only encourages us to dress immodestly, but he also encourages us to think immoral or improper thoughts. He does this with pictures, movies, stories, jokes, music, and dances that suggest immoral acts. The law of chastity requires that our thoughts as well as our actions be pure. The prophet Alma taught that when we are judged by God, “our thoughts will also condemn us; and in this awful state we shall not dare to look up to our God” (Alma 12:14).

Jesus taught, “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart” (Matthew 5:27–28).

President Gordon B. Hinckley warned: “You live in a world of terrible temptations. Pornography, with its sleazy filth, sweeps over the earth like a horrible, engulfing tide. It is poison. Do not watch it or read it. It will destroy you if you do. It will take from you your self-respect. It will rob you of a sense of the beauties of life. It will tear you down and pull you into a slough of evil thoughts and possibly of evil actions. Stay away from it. Shun it as you would a foul disease, for it is just as deadly. Be virtuous in thought and in deed. God has planted in you, for a purpose, a divine urge which may be easily subverted to evil and destructive ends. When you are young, do not get involved in steady dating. When you reach an age where you think of marriage, then is the time to become so involved. But you boys who are in high school don’t need this, and neither do the girls”.

Satan sometimes tempts us through our emotions. He knows when we are lonely, confused, or depressed. He chooses this time of weakness to tempt us to break the law of chastity. Our Heavenly Father can give us the strength to pass through these trials unharmed.

the familyThe scriptures tell about a righteous young man named Joseph who was greatly trusted by his master, Potiphar. Potiphar had given Joseph command over everything he had. Potiphar’s wife lusted after Joseph and tempted him to commit adultery with her. But Joseph resisted her and fled from her. (See Genesis 39:1–18.)

Paul taught, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). Alma emphasized that we will “not be tempted above that which [we] can bear” as we “humble [ourselves] before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually” (Alma 13:28).

• How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language, and behavior?

• How can we fight the spread and influence of pornography?

• What promises has the Lord given us to help us overcome Satan’s temptations?

Breaking the Law of Chastity Is Extremely Serious

The prophet Alma grieved because one of his sons had broken the law of chastity. Alma said to his son Corianton, “Know ye not, my son, that these things are an abomination in the sight of the Lord; yea, most abominable above all sins save it be the shedding of innocent blood or denying the Holy Ghost?” (Alma 39:5). Unchastity is next to murder in seriousness.

If a man and a woman break the law of chastity and conceive a child, thefamilythey may be tempted to commit another abominable sin: abortion. There is seldom any justifiable reason for abortion.

“When a man and woman conceive a child out of wedlock, every effort should be made to encourage them to marry. When the probability of a successful marriage is unlikely due to age or other circumstances, unwed parents should be counseled to place the child for adoption through LDS Family Services to ensure that the baby will be sealed to temple-worthy parents” (First Presidency letter, June 26, 2002, and July 19, 2002).

It is extremely important to our Heavenly Father that His children obey the law of chastity. Members of the Church who break this law or influence others to do so are subject to Church discipline.

Those Who Break the Law of Chastity Can Be Forgiven

the familyPeace can come to those who have broken the law of chastity. The Lord tells us, “If the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, … all his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him” (Ezekiel 18:21–22). Peace comes only through forgiveness.

President Kimball said: “To every forgiveness there is a condition. … The fasting, the prayers, the humility must be equal to or greater than the sin. There must be a broken heart and a contrite spirit. … There must be tears and genuine change of heart. There must be conviction of the sin, abandonment of the evil, confession of the error to properly constituted authorities of the Lord”.

For many people, confession is the most difficult part of repentance. We must confess not only to the Lord but also to the person we have offended, such as a husband or wife, and to the proper priesthood authority. The priesthood leader (bishop or stake president) will judge our standing in the Church. The Lord told Alma, “Whosoever transgresseth against me … if he confess his sins before thee and me, and repenteth in the sincerity of his heart, him shall ye forgive, and I will forgive him also” (Mosiah 26:29).

But President Kimball warned: “Even though forgiveness is so abundantly promised there is no promise nor indication of forgiveness to any soul who does not totally repent. … We can hardly be too forceful in reminding people that they cannot sin and be forgiven and then sin again and again and expect repeated forgiveness” (The Miracle of Forgiveness, 353, 360). Those who receive forgiveness and then repeat the sin are held accountable for their former sins (see D&C 82:7; Ether 2:15).

Those Who Keep the Law of Chastity Are Greatly Blessed

• What blessings do we receive as we keep the law of chastity?

When we obey the law of chastity, we can live without guilt or shame. Our lives and our children’s lives are blessed when we keep ourselves pure and spotless before the Lord. Children can look to our example and follow in our footsteps.
