Nationwide “Half Hour 2 Empower” campaign launched in Utah will rally up the business community to help elementary schools and parents teach their children how to be safe and good citizens. Salt Lake City, Utah, (Aug 15, 2006) ? Children’s Way and One Heart Foundation today signed a formal agreement to join forces in the all important battle to protect our children from the harmful things on the Internet. They will work closely together on the campaign in Utah and then expand it out to the other states. We are starting to see the results of a generation of children left unattended at the computer. Excessive chat, gaming, gambling, predators and pornography are taking our children, and the future of this country, hostage. Just last month, little 5 year old Destiny Norton was murdered and sexually assaulted. The prime suspect later admitted that it all started with his addiction to Internet pornography. Unfortunately this is a profile of a large wave of teens that have become addicted to Internet pornography in their early years and have escalated from there. “We need to stop this rapidly growing trend of young people becoming addicted to the bad things on the Internet”, says Scott Dow, Director of Children’s Way, “We need to take aggressive and decisive action to teach our young children what not to do on the Internet, but also what to do. Each of our children need to be on the Internet and it’s our responsibility to help them use it properly.” The “Half Hour 2 Empower” program brings the community, businesses, schools and government together to help parents spend more time enjoying and learning with their children in front of the computer ? teaching them how to be safe and good citizens. “Getting the parents to sit down with their children at the computer is a critical step to solving this problem”, states Alan Osmond, Chairman of One Heart Foundation, “Our young children need to be taught the correct way to use the Internet for good.” There is no shortage of great teaching materials for parents to use to teach their children about this issue. The problem has been getting the parents motivated enough to learn the material themselves and then pass it along to their children. The “Half Hour 2 Empower” program aims to fix that disconnect through some revolutionary programs that will get the word out to parents and engage them in this important task. The business community will be given the opportunity to become official sponsors of this activity and therefore attach their brand to this great cause. Children’s Way and One Heart, along with each of the elementary schools that participate in the program, will be approaching businesses with this “Cause Branding” and advertising opportunity. Children’s Way is a non-profit organization headquartered in Provo, Utah with satellite offices in Washington, DC, and Colorado Springs, CO. The website for Children’s Way is www.childrensway.com. One Heart Foundation is an Orem based 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is focused on strengthening an protecting families. Go to www.oneheart.org for more information.
