Let’s Turn The World Around!

Become a Zion People.

Zion would use money, power, and influence for building the kingdom of God, leveling up the poor, thus providing equal esteem to all people, caring for one another’s needs, blessing the sick, comforting the afflicted, clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, and establishing peace.

The attitude of Babylon (The World) leads to pride, contention, hardened hearts, withdrawing from the core principles of the Church, and promoting behavior that is akin to persecuting the poor and afflicted. It is Satanic thinking and actions, idolatry, idleness and idle talk, envy, strife, self-indulgence, lying, dishonesty, robbery, inappropriate sexual dalliance, murder, and all manner of wickedness.

Conversely, the attitude of Zion leads to confidence to be able to stand in the presence of God, priesthood power, a growing knowledge of the doctrine of the priesthood, the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, and becoming unto God a king and priest, who wields an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth. The attitude of Zion leads to inheriting everlasting kingdoms, thrones, principalities, powers, and dominions, the blessings of which will flow to a Zion person forever and ever.

The term Zion is described in the scriptures and by prophets in a variety of ways.  Zion is a location, a group of followers, a journey, and a destination.  It is always a condition of the heart.

the familyDespite our best efforts, without divine help we cannot establish Zion in our lives, marriages, and families. Only the Lord can establish Zion. The early Saints did all that they could do, but in the end the ideal of Zion was created because the Lord came to help them complete their journey. Were they Zion people before his appearance?  Of course, but they had not yet achieved the ideal.  That step requires the Lord’s intervention.  Can we similarly quantify as Zion people without having achieved the ideal?  Most assuredly.  As we journey toward Zion and earnestly strive to assimilate Zion-like attributes in our lives, we are Zion.  We simply must keep our eye single to the ideal of Zion and move forward with the Lord’s grace compensating for those attributes that we have not yet acquired.  Thus, we will typically be describing the ideal that should be our goal.

Striving to become Zion people is as important as arriving.  Enoch’s people achieved their ideal of Zion “in the process of time”.  Neither Enoch’s people nor Melchizedek’s people nor the Nephites who were visited by Christ achieved the ideal of Zion overnight. As far as we can tell, they were much like us – people who made covenants with the Lord and did their best to understand and live those covenants.  Their prophets, like ours, held the ideal of Zion before them, and they rose to the occasion.  According to prophecy, we will do likewise in the latter days. Our desire should be to promote the cause of Zion and to urge us to gain a greater appreciation of our covenants, which have the power to make us the pure in heart.
