In the world today, The Family is under attack by the forces of evil and wickedness and many things long held sacred are ridiculed. The family is where children are nurtured, educated, and learn values.  The family is where individuals turn to first in challenging moments, including financial disaster, health crises, and many other key life transitions.  And yet, the family is also under attack in ways that are unprecedented.  More than one third of American children currently grow-up without a father in the home.  More than half of American adults are not married, cohabitation is at record levels, and the average marriage age is move later and later.

In a world of turmoil and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to make our families the center of our lives and the top of our priorities. Families lie at the center of our Heavenly Father’s plan. “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” declares the responsibilities of parents to their families:

“Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. ‘Children are an heritage of the Lord’ (Psalms 127: 3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.”

We need to make our homes a place of refuge from the storm, which is increasing in intensity all about us. Even if the smallest openings are left unattended, negative influences can penetrate the very walls of our homes.   We remind you that parents are to preside over their own families.

We hope that by providing you with family helps, members of your family will be assisted and encouraged to build stronger and better families and homes. We hope it will cause a conscious and sustained effort in building an eternal family unit, and we all will be reminded to focus our attention on the most important organization the Lord has established here on earth.

The Family

Family activities include (1) writing personal and family journals, (2) holding family councils, (3) establishing and maintaining family organizations for the immediate and extended family, (4) personal interviews between parents and children, (5) writing to relatives and missionaries, (6) genealogy, (7) visiting relatives and those who are ill or lonely, (8) charity work, (9) reading stories to children, and (10) singing Church hymns.

“Monday nights are reserved for family home evenings. We encourage members to set aside this time to strengthen family ties and teach principles and values in their homes.

We also counseled parents and children to give highest priority to family prayer, family home evening, gospel study and instruction, and wholesome family activities.

May it be our resolve this year to build a gospel-centered home, a safe harbor from the storms of the adversary. Let us again remember the promises and instructions from the Lord to His children:

“The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.

“Light and truth forsake that evil one.”

“But I have commanded you to bring up your children in light and truth.”

When you see things that are NOT RIGHT, take a STAND and STAND UP!  When others are forcing their ways and ideas upon you and you family that are NOT appropriate, SPEAK OUT! When you hear or see something on the TV, radion, internet or your computer that is inappropriate, SHUT IT OFF!  Sometimes silence isn’t golden . . . it’s YELLOW!  So OPEN YOUR MOUTHS for GOOD!

If we will do these things, we will be helping to TURN THIS WORLD AROUND!  Let’s all be like the people of Enoch who love one another and were of One Heart.  They became a ‘ZION People’ and were known as “The Happiest People that ever lived!”  Let’s do the SAME!

Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and ‘the family’ is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.

“In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.

We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

We are children of God and have come to earth to accomplish several things.

1. To get a body of flesh and bones, just like our Heavenly Parents have.
2. To experience Good and Evil and to have the right to CHOOSE ‘TheWay’ we wish to follow.  The Way of everlasting darkness, or The Way of Eternal Life.  2 Nephi 10:23
3. To learn and to seek for higher things that will improve our minds and give us good experiences.
4. To experience our feelings and to fight off the ‘Natural Man’ which is an enemy to God.
5. REpent of our sins and come unto Christ and follow Him.
6. To be baptized by one who is in authority for the remission of our sins and to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ to always remember Him and to Keep His Commandments that His Spirit will always be with us.
7. To follow the Prophet of God and sustain The Twelve Apastles as Prophets, Seers, and Revelators.
8. To receive The Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by one who is in authority.
9. To worthily take upon our selves both the Aaronic and the Melchizedek Priesthoods and to serve willingly in those callings.
10. To receive one’s holy endowments and prepare for eternal life to live in our Heavenly Fathers highest Kingdom.
11. To choose a partner and get married for time and for all eternity in a Temple or, The House of The Lord.
12. To do as commanded and multiply and replenish the earth by having children and caring for them.
13. To be true and faithful in the covenants we made and to serve side by side with our partner in raising a righteous posterity.
14. To serve as missionaries and to help others learn about Jesus Christ and His Restored Church with the fullness of the gospel..
15. To endure to the end in keeping the commandments and responsibilities as a member of Jesus’s Church.
16. To enjoy this life having Faith, Hope and Charity for all.
17. To have a mighty change of heart and to become of One Heart with clean hands and a pure heart.
18. Plus much more.  You need NOT be commanded in all things!

If you will do these things, you will know eternal happiness!

Charity is work of the heart.  With pure hearts, we can build a “World of Giving“.

Charity is the pure love of Christ. It is the love that Christ has for the children of men and that the children of men should have for one another. It is the highest, noblest, and strongest kind of love and the most joyous to the soul (see 1 Nephi 11:23).

The Savior wants all people to receive His love and to share it with others. He declared to His disciples: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:34–35). In relationships with family members and others, followers of Christ look to the Savior as their example and strive to love as He loves, with unfailing compassion, patience, and mercy.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13: 1-4, 8

Both the giver and the receiver are blessed. For charity purifies and sanctifies all it touches, and “whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him” (Moro. 7:47).
The mission of our One Heart Charity is to lose ourselves in the service of others.
