You’re Not Divorced – You’re Single!

You’re Not Divorced – You’re Single!

the familyTonight, I listened to my brother-in-law, R. Stan Smith, talk to a group of single adults over 50 years old.   I was very impressed with the discussion and council that he gave to them and asked if I could share some of them.  Here are some things to think about!

“When you meet someone new, you only have one chance to make a first impression!

When someone asks if you are married, DO NOT preface it with “No, I’m divorced.”

You NEVER want to introduce yourself as DIVORCED!  You should just answer their question and say No! Or say, I’m Single.  The question was, are you married!  Don’t get into your past.  That’s NOT what they asked you!

- When you tell people you are divorced, what is the message you are sending?

Answer:  BAGGAGE!  “I was a part of something that didn’t work.”
Let me tell you why. NO ONE CARES!  Everybody has his or her own problems and circumstances.  It doesn’t matter.  It’s not the way to start a first impression!

 - How many of you think that you wear your divorce like a badge?

How many of you have met someone who wears it like that?  Is that the first impression you want to give people?  The fact that you’re divorced?

-What quality do you want people notice about you first?

You want them to notice the BEST Qualities about you for their first impression.

-You’re stuck in a rut and you’re not moving forward in any dating relationships.  How do I get out of this bad routine?

RE-BRAND and RE-PACKAGE!

“Those who have caused a divorce through their own poor choices can repent and be forgiven. Those whose marriages have failed because of what others have done can receive strength and comfort from the Lord, who promised: ”Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. . . . For my yoke is easy, and my burden light” (Matthew 11: 28, 30).

Our Native Americans Welcomed Columbus To This Promised Land

Our Native Americans Welcomed Columbus To

This Promised Land

the family

“We were already here in America when Columbus Came!”

-Some of the first Americans came from the North called the Jaradites, a group of people survived the days of the Tower of Babel when the languages were confounded. (Destroyed because of Secret Combinations)

-Another group was the Families of Lehi and Ishmael called the Nephites and Lamanites that left Jerusalem when the Lord told them that the city was going to be destroyed. The Lord instructed them in how to build a ship.  (They were later Destroyed because of Secret Combinations)

“And when my brethren saw that I was about to build a ship, they began to murmur against me, saying: Our brother is a fool, for he thinketh that he can build a ship; yea, and he also thinketh that he can cross these great waters.

And thus my brethren did complain against me, and were desirous that they might not labor, for they did not believe that I could build a ship; neither would they believe that I was instructed of the Lord.

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto them that they should murmur no more against their father; neither should they withhold their labor from me, for God had commanded me that I should build a ship.   1 Ne. 17: 17-18, 49, 51

the familyNow I, Nephi, did not work the timbers after the manner which was learned by men, neither did I build the ship after the manner of men; but I did build it after the manner which the Lord had shown unto me; wherefore, it was not after the manner of men.   1 Nephi 18: 2

And now, if the Lord has such great power, and has wrought so many miracles among the children of men, how is it that he cannot instruct me, that I should build a ship?

the family

-The Lord led them to the promised land.

-They kept a written record.

“But, said he, notwithstanding our afflictions, we have obtained a land of promise, a land which is choice above all other lands; a land which the Lord God hath covenanted with me should be a land for the inheritance of my seed. Yea, the Lord hath covenanted this land unto me, and to my children forever, and also all those who should be led out of other countries by the hand of the Lord.

Wherefore, I, Lehi, prophesy according to the workings of the Spirit which is in me, that there shall none come into this land save they shall be brought by the hand of the Lord.

Wherefore, this land is consecrated unto him whom he shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever.

And behold, it is wisdom that this land should be kept as yet from the knowledge of other nations; for behold, many nations would overrun the land, that there would be no place for an inheritance.

Wherefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise, that inasmuch as those whom the Lord God shall bring out of the land of Jerusalem shall keep his commandments, they shall prosper upon the face of this land; and they shall be kept from all other nations, that they may possess this land unto themselves. And if it so be that they shall keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon the face of this land, and there shall be none to molest them, nor to take away the land of their inheritance; and they shall dwell safely forever.”   2 Nephi 1: 5-9

the family

-Jesus was Crucified in the Old World. He was resurrected and visited the people in America, the land of Joseph, and to “other sheep” in various places of the world.the family

-Today, this ‘Promised Land’ of America is made up of many  nationalities of people who migrated here looking for peace and freedom.  Many came by the inspiration and hand of God.

the family

-The Lord’s Church was once again re-established on earth

-Satan has great power over the people.

-The people again forget their God.  (Yet to be Destroyed by Secret Combinations – unless we learn from history!)

-The Lamanites (Native Americans) shall blossom as a rose.

-The earth was baptized with water in the days of Noah. It will then be baptized with fire, or The Holy Ghost.

-The Righteous will be spared and live the United order.

-The people are cleansed and build The New Jerusalem.

-Jesus Christ shall return to America once again wearing red apparel and live with us in peace for a thousand years in the New Jerusalem.

The secret to surviving:
KEEP YOUR COVENANTS!

These are some important moments of history and prophesies for the future and is why one should read The Book of Mormon, an ancient record recorded on gold plates by our Native Americans.  They were translated by Joseph Smith and published in 1830 as The Book of Mormon for the Lords Church which was to be calledThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Sharia Law or Constitutional Law

Sharia Law or Constitutional Law?

Call on Congress to support HR 973

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, under the tutelage of the most pro-Muslim president, Barack Obama, is walking lockstep with Mr. Obama in his efforts to bring radical Islam to our cities and towns.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asserts: the family“I certainly think President Obama has sent a very clear message of respect and appreciation of all religions, and in particular of Islam.” She has even said that extremists have “perverted” the teachings of Islam. That’s a bold-face lie—OR—maybe she has never read the Qur’an! Radical Islam, through Sharia Law, wants to rule the world!

Make no mistake; the Muslim Brotherhood is already here in the United States of America! Yes, radical Islam is ATTACKING our homeland.

And what is worse—Mr. Barack Hussein Obama favors this takeover! Thanks to Barack Obama, RADICAL Islam and Sharia Law have an “open invitation” into our good old United States of America! We’ve got to do something immediately to STOP this radical onslaught against us!

The common perspective held by many young people is that the United States is anti-Muslim. Yes! Good! But with the administration’s help—that is drastically changing! Her lukewarm reaction:“Oh that hurts me! That hurts me so much, honestly. I mean, it’s a painful perception to hear about, and I deeply regret that anyone believers that or propagates it.”

the familyAmerican patriots, like you, are against radical Islam, or Sharia Law, whose teachings go totally against the Constitution of the United States.

Hillary Clinton went on to say: “I would like to see more countries do more to protect the rights of minorities because I think that’s an important part of democracy and of recognizing that no matter what our religion of whatever our background might be, we share this planet from many different vantage points, and we should be respectful!”

That sounds so “politically correct,” but if she had studied history and what radical Islam has “accomplished” around the world, she would understand why American patriots are against the radicals, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Sharia Law!

As you have watched the spread of Sharia Law throughout the entire Middle East via the so-called “Arab Spring,” you have seen country-after-country, supposedly in the quest for freedom; turn toradical Islam—Sharia Law. Sharia—what was once somewhat dormant, via the new unleashed freedoms, is now a “raging lion” literally taking over the entire Middle East, save Israel. And we must be well-aware of what is going on around us.

In spite of Sharia Law infecting and affecting your community, we are making some progress in defending our homeland! Let us explain: Florida’s U.S. Rep. Sandy Adams has introduced HR 973 which forbids foreign law (including Sharia Law) from our United States court system.

Through a phone call and our research staff, we were notified by Congresswoman’s Sandy Adams’ staff that soon, HR 973 will be submitted to House Judiciary Committee for “markup.” We are one-step closer to a vote against Sharia Law.

the familyI know you are an American who stands in opposition to Sharia – orthodox Islam’s repressive, supremacist political-military-legal system. Sharia’s goal is to DESTROY Western civilization. By design, Sharia is a complete and all-encompassing doctrine. It dictates not only the rules governing religious practice but all other aspects of life as well. It is thoroughly hostile to American freedoms in many, many ways, as it denies liberties that are guaranteed to you by the United States Constitution!

We have witnessed how Sharia Law has ALTERED the entire Middle East and northern Africa in the past two years. Supposed freedoms brought about by the Arab Springs saw a drastic change in Sharia. What was once a soft-spoken religious belief is now a forceful, overtaking phenomenon called Sharia. It affects and dominates every country of the Arab Spring. Hundreds of thousands of Christians have been forced to flee; many have been martyred for the sake of Christianity.

In Kuwait– Kuwait’s parliament approved the death sentence for Muslims who insult Allah, the Qur’an, Muslim prophets, or Muhammad’s wives. Christians and other non-Muslim minorities will be given a minimum prison sentence of ten years for the same offense.

In Mali—A Christian leader was beheaded and others were being threatened with similar treatment as Islamic militants run amok in Mali, West Africa. Christians have fled the town of Timbuktu in the north of the country where harsh Sharia Law has already been imposed amid reports that churches in Gao, 200 miles to the east, have been completely destroyed.

In Russia—A Muslim lawyer has called for the introduction of Sharia courts in Russia, threatening a “bloodbath” if the demand is opposed. Chechen Khasavov, the founder of an organization that defends the rights of Muslims, stated: “Muslims do not want to get involved in the multi-layered court system, it is alien to them. You think that we come here to Russia like to some alien place. But we think that we are at home.

“Maybe you are alien, and we are at home. And we will set the rules, the rules that suit us, whether you want it or not. Any attempts to change it will end in blood; it will be the second Dead Sea. We will flood the city with blood!

That statement provoked a backlash in Russia, and Khasavov fled the country after receiving death threats. Even though it appears that the threat of Sharia Law is now slowly developing in Russia, it has already fully developed here in the United States!

The tentacles of Sharia Law have reached the nation on the brink—SYRIA. Christians living in conflict-torn Syria are afraid that their community would fall victim of religious extremism as President Bashar al-Assad regime collapses and radical Islamists come to power.

One Syrian Christian, whose name is being withheld, said that the Christian community would suffer bad times. He states: “A full-fledged civil war will break out in Syria if Assad’s enemies and their western supporters continue efforts to topple the president. Islamists will come to power!”

In Egypt, the presidential elections were held this week. Pro-Sharia candidates have made the run-off to be held in June.

From country to country….Radical Sharia Law is overtaking many parts of the globe.

the family

Lawmakers say, “It cannot happen here in the United States.”

IT HAS ALREADY PENETRATED OUR UNITED STATES COURTS SYSTEM!!

That is why it is absolutely imperative that you fax Congress today to make sure YOU are not overtaken by the radicals!

For all practical purposes, the Obama administration has welcomed radical Sharia Law. Mr. Obama is now dictating the “freedom” of Sharia by helping to allow Sharia Law into the White House; and, of course, into our U.S. courts. The olive branch of peace, extended by Obama’s minions, has not changed the true course of radical Islam!

Sharia Law has already ENTERED the United States Courts’ system; and you must help to put a definitive STOP to that.

H.R.973 will soon be submitted to House Judiciary Committee for “markup.” We are one-step closer to a vote against Sharia Law.

. . . . . . . . . .

“And I will come unto you, and if there be any among you that has a desire for freedom, yea, if there be even a spark of freedom remaining, behold I will stir up insurrections among you, even until those who have desires to usurp power and authority shall become extinct.”  Alma 60:27

It Is So Much Easier To Be Righteous Than To Sin

It Is So Much Easier To Be Righteous Than To Sin.

the family
“It hasn’t always been easy to stay morally clean but it has been far easier than the alternative. I have never spent one second worrying about an unwanted pregnancy or disease. I have never had a moment’s anguish because a man used and then discarded me. When I do marry, I will do so without regret. I have yet to meet the man or woman who is happier because he or she was dishonest or because they were addicted to something or because they were immoral.” – Sheri Dew

To commit sin is to willfully disobey God’s commandments or to fail to act righteously despite a knowledge of the truth (James 4: 17).

The Lord has said that He “cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance” (D&C 1: 31). Sin results in the withdrawal of the Holy Ghost. It makes the one who sins unable to dwell in the presence of Heavenly Father, for “no unclean thing can dwell with God” (1 Ne. 10: 21).

Other than Jesus Christ, each person who has ever lived on earth has broken commandments or failed to act according to knowledge of the truth. The Apostle John taught: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, [Jesus Christ] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John. 1: 8-9). Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, each person can repent and be forgiven of these sins.

When Life Isn’t Fair

By on May 28 in Blog tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | Comments Off

When Life Isn’t Fair

If you read this title and thought, “When is life fair?” welcome to modern living.  Whether we’re piling up adversity or we’re the envy of everyone we know, there’s a tendency to focus upon times when life hands us a raw deal, times when we take stock of our situation and decide we’ve been shortchanged somehow.

It’s easy to do; we’re surrounded by people who have the things we lack. If you struggle with infertility, the whole world looks pregnant (and every woman sounds like Goofy, and brags, “Garsh, you just look at me and I get pregnant!”).  If you just lost your job, everyone seems to be taking lavish vacations, driving fancy cars, and purchasing flat screen TVs. If you suffer from chronic illness, everybody else seems healthy as a horse.

Guess who’s the champion of noticing unfairness? Little kids. “But he gets to stay up until eight-thirty!” “But she got to sit in front last time.”  “He got a bigger cookie than I did.”  Their lives seem filled with injustice, tiny slights that elicit whining and accusations of grand imbalance in the universe. I’ll bet you can’t even count how many times you’ve heard a child moan, “But that’s not fair!”

Who actually came up with this notion of fairness, and told children to expect it? Did we somehow imply that this is one’s right, simply by trying to love them equally?  When did they start watching one another to see who got the new jacket or the prettiest hair bow?  And how did a kid who struggles with math suddenly become such an accurate score keeper?

We all went through it, and now we’re adults still doing it!  We see someone apparently enjoying more of life’s perks and try to figure out how they managed to outwit the system.  We compare our homes, our clothes, our abilities.  In fact, there is almost nothing that escapes our ability to compare it to what someone else has.

Fairness, or the lack thereof, is waved in our faces when we watch commercials and are told we are “less than” in some way, if we don’t buy a certain product.  We measure our social standing, and even our very happiness, by how lucky we’ve been accumulating life’s favors, as if this is a game of Monopoly and the point is to accumulate properties.

Yet fairness is, in fact, a childish concept.  Mature people don’t expect fairness for a minute.  They’ve learned to adapt to Plan B, step aside out of courtesy, and often drop their expectations altogether.  When, through sheer luck of the draw, they have surprisingly clear traffic or a low utility bill, they don’t see it as long overdue equilibrium; they see it as a joyous surprise, as if someone handed them fifty dollars for no reason at all.

I used to point out to my children those times when the pendulum would swing the other way, and we would get the good parking spot, the short supermarket line, the amazing bargain.  I wanted them not to expect good fortune as an entitlement, but to see that life hands us both setbacks and windfalls, the minuses and pluses pretty much balancing out.  I also wanted to teach them optimism.  Let’s face it, you can look for the good in life, or drag through each day expecting rain clouds.

And I think, for the most part, our kids do look on the bright side.  But even as they reached their teens, we heard the inevitable, “But it’s just not fair!” from time to time.  I finally learned to smile and say, “Are you sure you want fairness?  Let me tell you about fairness.  Fairness means one person in our family goes to bed hungry every night.  It would be a miracle if even one of us had the gospel.  Fairness means you would not have a computer, much less a television or a cell phone.  You’d be living in a third world country and would be lucky to have a decent pair of shoes.”

And this isn’t just telling kids to eat their dinner “because of all the starving children in China.” These are true statistics about world population, and if you really want fairness on this earth, then you’ll have to give up a ton of blessings you now take for granted. “You’re right,” I would tell my kids, “Life isn’t fair. You’re one of the lucky ones.” Sometimes a broader perspective can shrink self pity and remind us to appreciate the land in which we live and the immense blessings we enjoy.

Like me, you’ve probably seen the email circulating that says the following:  “If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep you are richer than 75% of the world.

“If you have money in the bank, your wallet, and some spare change you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.

“If you woke up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.

“If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the agony of imprisonment or torture, or the horrible pangs of starvation you are luckier than 500 million people alive and suffering.

“If you can read this message you are more fortunate than 3 billion people in the world who cannot read it at all.”

Or the very timely and popular Facebook message, and often see on bumper stickers as well, “If you can read this, thank an American Soldier.”

Such information gives us pause and rightly interrupts our pouting. This doesn’t mean we don’t try to set real injustice right, such as those times when we must defend the persecuted or demand that a worker honor his contract. We have a legal system for a reason and times arise when we have to roll up our sleeves and insist upon fairness.

But what it means is that we need to take a wider view, and realize we are not being continually dumped on by a cosmic fairy who’s laughing her head off as we writhe beneath her tricks.  Indeed, as members of the church we are blessed beyond the wildest dreams of most people in the world.  We get sidetracked comparing inconsequential prizes (he has better golf clubs?  Seriously?) and we forget to be grateful that we have so much of what actually matters.

King Benjamin told us that, even if we were to struggle and work all our lives to pay back the Lord for blessing and redeeming us, we would still be unprofitable servants.  There is simply no way to balance the scales.

And speaking of Christ and what He did for us, if you want the best example of UNFAIRNESS in the biggest, boldest font you could ever hope to find, look to Christ himself, suffering for our sins.  Now our complaining looks truly ridiculous, doesn’t it?

Try to make a list of all the blessings in your life.
