the familythe family

Following is an interesting article written by several inter-faith members of the Ford Motor Company for its employees. It was presented by the ‘Ford Interfaith’ group as a message about the LDS Church in February, 2004. The statistics are MUCH higher now in 2011!

The Ford Interfaith group promotes unity by sharing information about all faiths and features these types of articles about various religions and faiths.

QUICK FACTS & INTERESTING TIDBITS about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Fleeing continued mob attacks 158 years ago, the first Mormon
pioneers desperately started their Westward trek from Illinois in the dead of winter. Of the 70,000 who began this 1300-mile journey, 6,000 were buried along the way, including many children. The following are quick facts and interesting tidbits about this now flourishing church.

OVERVIEW

* Named “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”; informal
nicknames are “LDS” or “Mormon” -named after the prophet-historian

* Believes it is the Lord’s restoration of original Christianity as
foretold to occur before Christ’s Second Coming.

* Core focus is that Christ and His teachings bring happiness in this
life and exaltation in the next.

HISTORY

* In 1820 14-yr-old Joseph Smith told of a vision of God and Christ
foretelling a church restoration.

* Organized in New York in 1830, the church moved to near Cleveland, then near Kansas City, then Illinois .

* Fleeing Illinois , Mormon pioneers founded Salt Lake City in Utah and over 600 other Western communities.

SALT LAKE CITY

* Temple Square in Salt Lake has over 5 million annual visitors, more
than the Grand Canyon .

* The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is the world’s most famous choir and has the world’s oldest radio program.

* The Salt Lake Temple is the most famous, but there are 128 other
temples built here and around the world while
others are under construction.

* Home of the world’s largest genealogy database; visit it online or
through 3,700 free branch libraries.

ACTIVE CONGREGATIONS

* Sunday services entail a three-hour block of three meetings; about
27,000 congregations exist worldwide.

* Highly vibrant programs exist for youth, children, singles, men, and women; very strong family focus.

* Everyone has a calling; some surveys show LDS have the highest U.S. attendance and service rates.

* Families receive personal fellowship visits at home from other members on a monthly basis.

FINANCES

* Members tithe 10 percent, plus donate generously to the needy the first Sunday of each month.

* Clergy and all other congregational positions are unpaid (however, much of the janitorial is paid).

* The church has no debt; all buildings are paid for in cash (average of two new congregations a day).

* The paid positions in Salt Lake are famously low-salaried; funds are frugally used and tightly audited.

HEALTH CODE

* With a health code from 1833, LDS avoid alcohol, tobacco, illegal
drugs, coffee, and tea (herbal tea is ok).

* This 1833 code also teaches grains (especially wheat), fresh fruits and vegetables, and sparing use of meat.

* A UCLA study showed that active LDS live longer than most Americans, men by 11 years, women by 8.

* Utah is 50th in smoking, alcohol consumption, drunk driving, heart disease, cancer, and sick days.

EDUCATION

* With four colleges, Utah ‘s BYU with 30,000 students is the largest
single-campus private college.

* BYU Independent Study with 130,000 students is North America (340 web courses, 530 via mail).

* Seminary, a daily class usually held around 6:00 A.M., serves 376,000 high school students.

* There are Institutes of Religion at 1,950 colleges worldwide that serve 367,000 college students.

* The church operates schools in parts of the Pacific Ocean and Mexico for 10,000 students.

* Utah is 50th in spending per pupil, but first in adults that graduated from high school and attended college.

WOMEN

* In 1842 the “Relief Society” was organized; it’s the largest women’s
organization in the world.

* Wyoming was first to allow women to vote; Utah was second, two months later, in 1870.

* Women preach from the pulpit and serve as organization presidents, teachers, committee chairs, etc.

SHARING CHRIST’S GOOD NEWS

* 61,000 missionaries serve in 165 countries; 93 percent are college-age; 22 percent are female.

* Unpaid and paying their own way, most work 65 hours a week for two years, often in a new language.

MEMBERSHIP DISTRIBUTION

* LDS are 70 percent of Utah, 30 percent of Idaho; after Catholics, LDS are the largest sect in 10 states.

* The church has 5.5 million members in the U.S., making it the fourth largest individual U.S. denomination.

* Some memberships: New Zealand 95k, Japan 115k, UK 175k, Philippines 500k, Brazil 900k, Mexico 925k.

* Worldwide 51 percent are female; about 55 percent are not Caucasian; about 70 percent are converts.

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH

* For the last 15 years, every day an average of 800+ people worldwide joined the LDS church.

* Half of the growth is in Latin America, but the rate of growth is
highest in Africa and the former Soviet bloc.

* Worldwide membership just passed 12 million, a tenfold increase in 50 years.

* In 1984 a non-LDS professor estimated 265 million members by 2080; so far growth has been faster.

* As this growth has been steady, it will be the next major world religion since Islam.”

CHARITY/SERVICE

* Members in need obtain welfare from the LDS Church (thus Utah
government welfare spending is very low).

* LDS donate time at 220 welfare storehouses or canneries and about 400 farms.

* There are 210 employment centers placing over 175,000 people annually, and 64 family service centers.

* The church operates 46 thrift stores, in part to provide employment for the disadvantaged.

* The 61,000 missionaries spend half a day each week doing

HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE

* Over 200 million pounds of food, clothing, and medicine were donated in the last 20 years in 147 countries.

* Almost all of this help is to non-LDS; LDS charities also work with and donate to many non-LDS charities.

* Very rapid disaster relief has been given in 144 major disasters since 1986.

* Almost 3,000 welfare “missionaries” work without pay in 55 countries (farm instructors, doctors, teachers, etc…).

* LDS charities fund a wide variety of projects like drilling water wells or funding small business startup loans.

* New in 2001, members in poor areas can get low-rate college loans;

This is all well and good. Great information and all but there’s no mention made of Jesus Christ, his sacrifices and death on the cross to redeem man from the sins of of the world. There’s no mention of just who Christ is – according to Mormon theology. There’s no meniton of what is required, according to Momom theology, of how what is needed to enter into their – LDS – version of eternity and what you will be doing there. There is not mention made of the Trinity, God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost; three in one. The Father, the Word and the
    Holy Spirit.

    Ken

    • Alan says:

Ken, you are right in that we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and our Church bears His name, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But, this was a statistical report and not one to preach our Gospel beliefs. Of course we always share the Word of the Lord for we are “not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ”. (Rom. 1: 16)

  • Sarah says:

Great piece. Although, I’m not too sure I buy it. No references anywhere to the statistics. Can’t find Ford claiming this or any other religious piece anywhere. Honestly, until proven wrong, I’m going to think this is almost all exaggerated or a lie. Always skeptical. And yes, I’m LDS myself.

    • Alan says:

Sarah, you are right! It is not accurate. There are MANY MORE HIGHER NUMBERS THAN THIS ARTICLE REPORTED! This article is about Seven (7) years OLD! As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I recommend that you take the Church News. It is amazing how fast the Church has grown. It is the fastest growing Church on the earth today. We welcome all visitors to worship with us. Here is a Church near you! http://mormon.org/worship/

  • Jerry says:

I find it very disturbing to hear and read someone’s “tearing” another belief down. What we need to hear is encouraging words. Although I don’t agree with all that the Mormons teach I support them in their efforts to reach the world for Christ. May their tribe increase!!

  • Dave Musacchia says:

  • Katie B says:

    Dear Ford,
I really appreciate your boldness and honest in posting this article. My opinion of your company skyrocketed and you have gained my support. The world needs more good companies like this. Thumbs up!

  • Obinna says:

Great Article from the ford motor company’s Interfaith group. Very short, precise and very uplifting. We need more truthful information about the latter-day saints. Nice job Alan.

  • Sally says:

I hope we don’t forget the values that came with the pilgrams and the pioneers and all those people who paid dearly for this country. There’s too much BS going on in politics. It makes me want to live in another country. I’m only fifty but feel old fashioned. I like old fashioned because it’s solid and safe, and works better all the way around. Bless us

  • Emma Carreon says:

Thank you Ford for this factual, truthful article and thank you Alan for letting us read it!! I am originally from the Philippines and now live in New Zealand. One thing I have found out is that those facts about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true in the Philippines, as it is in America, and as is here in New Zealand, and am sure anywhere in the world. Just like there will only be one TRUTH in anything, the church stands firm to make sure its members continue to follow the way of Jesus Christ, the name of which it is named after…

  • Rosalie Lenihan says:

Having grown up in a part member family in a somewhat cloistered Utah small town, I have to express my reservations about this article. It brings to mind the poem about the blind men commenting on the elephant. Each man “sees’ only what he experiences.
This over view is so glossy, it’s blinding me. There in lies the porblem.

  • Lynda says:

And everything you state, is why I LOVE BEING MORMON.
    Thanks for a positive view….

  • “TRUTH WILL PREVAIL” Thanks for the very uplifting, factual article about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

  • KT Johnson says:

    Thank you FORD!

  • Jay says:

Agree or disagree with this church, these figures are very impressive. I also like how they have devoted so much time, effort and money to non-LDS issues as well.

    • Alan says:

Jay, they are even MORE impressive knowing that these numbers are about seven years old! The Church is exploding in size and efforts towards others of all faiths.

  • Dorothy says:

I’m thankfull for a true light in a world which needs this so much.

  • Don says:

Great article and correct! I congratulate Ford for getting it right and just want them to know I “put my money where my mouth is.” I just bought 5,000 shares of Ford stock as a way to say “thanks for doing something right” and getting the facts straight. Keep up the good work!

  • Dara Knibbs says:

Thank you, it is nice to see something non-antagonistic about our faith and beliefs.

  • Aaron Brown says:

I really appreciated this wonderful publication of the religious organization I have chosen to follow. I can tell that all involved were very careful to the detail of each component. This care is not lost on me and is very profound. Thank you for trying so hard to represent something that precious and great worth to us. Sincere thanks.

  • Crys says:

I heard that Federal Bureau of Investigation likes to hire BYU graduates because Mormons are very honest, loyal and trustworthy. A friend of mine is FBI employee, also I’ve met a retired FBI who now serves as a bishop in a singles ward.

  • David Ridley says:

I learned some things and my wife and I were delighted by the faithful depiction and accuracy. Well done!

  • Jimmy says:

Thank you for writing on our religion I live in Utah and am a member and think this is an awesome article! Thank You

  • Chelsea says:

Regardless of your belief in one religion, can’t you rejoice in good works being done by anyone in this day and age? How many times did you thank a random stranger for their help? Did you ask them what religious organization they belonged to before thanking them? Of course not.

This article was to bring to light facts about the church not religious arguments. As a non-LDS reader thanks for posting positive facts about religions. I hope Ford will continue to do this with any religion. Helpful Not Helpful

    Great.

  • Thank you so very much, Ford Motor Company, for this accurate information about my church. I appreciate this more than you can know.

  • flyingsorcery says:

Very well done, Ford. Judging by how accurate this description is, I would be interested to read what they write about other religions. It would be a great way to get familiar with the basics of so many of my neighbors.

  • calanthium says:

Thank you for the very accurate description of my church. Can’t wait to share it with my missionary daughter. And my friends/family who have had questions. Makes me glad there is also a ’67 Mustang sitting in my garage! Some things get better with age.

  • Another thank-you from a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!!!

  • Kim Johnson says:

Very Interesting! Thanks for sharing this information.

  • Rachael Smith says:

I enjoyed reading this, thanks for such unbiased information! In the hope of spreading tolerance through understanding, would someone please post links to Ford’s articles about other religions as well?

  • Kimberly says:

Thanks Ford for producing this accurate and positive article about the LDS Church. I think, by these statistics and information, one can pretty much see what we’re all about!

  • Jared Wilson says:

Thanks to Ford for sharing this information about Mormons. We’ve long been misunderstood, and misjudged, and it’s a beautiful thing to see the truth written by an independent objective source!! Thanks and God Bless!

  • Linda says:

I so appreciate the truth and facts. Thank you for getting the information correct. Very refreshing! KUDOS to FORD MOTOR COMPANY!

  • N says:

From an outside perspective and an athiest, I really have to give props to everything it provides. As far as religion goes, it’s really the most functioning. Provides undying faith but pressuring to still be open minded. It has answers to EVERYTHING, which a religious person is always seeking. Where do aliens fit in all this? -Solved. What about Adam and Eve vs. dinosaurs? -Solved.

So I think that’s why science and faith has meshed so nicely. Mormons are free to ask questions and provide answers. Unless of course the question is whether the church is true or not.
It’s a genius organization already, plus the overwhelming guilt if you ever question the organization. I don’t see it falling anytime soon, and if a religion ever takes over the world, I hope it’s the LDS. Granted the general population would turn a lot more “innocent” but doesn’t matter if you’re in a contained bubble.
Anyway, keep converting! I personally can’t stand any religion, but can appreciate the service it provides for people who need faith.

    • Aprile says:

N- I appreciate the humor and candor of your comments. They certainly gave me reason to smile. However, I disagree with your assertion that the LDS faith doesn’t allow it’s members to question whether or not the church is “true.” On the contrary, from day one, we are told to “find out for ourselves” and “ask God to give us an answer.” If anything, we go to the extreme to encourage members and those investigating our church to make up their own minds. I personally don’t feel any guilt or pressure when I want to come to my own conclusion about church teachings. I do think the only thing you could accurately accuse us of is being a little arrogant in assuming that everyone who prays about our church will get the same answer! To each his own, and let each person find their own happiness, with religion or without.

  • Vanessa says:

Thanks, FORD! I have an awful lot of respect for a company who sticks to the facts about Mormonism since we live in a society that does the opposite. Great article!

  • Erin says:

I am so impressed by this article. Good for Ford for having such an awesome program at their company! I am now a Ford fan.

  • Trent says:

Glad to see Ford doing something productive but dont let them fool you. The Ford Foundation is still a supporter and contributor to the transition of America into a part of a world Goverment and has been since Henery Ford. Do your home work before the Gov shuts down the internet. Its going to get ugly soon.

  • Kathy Carter says:

Awesome. Reading the comments was as inspirational as was the article. “By their fruits ye shall know them.” Latter-day Saints’ lives speak for themselves. Great article – factual and to the point. Loved it!!

  • This is AWESOME!!! Thanks so much for providing accurate, interesting information about the LDS Church and its members. I consider myself a scholar regarding my faith, but I learned a lot with the numbers and details in this article. Well done!

  • Ken says:

Thank you for writing the facts, not spin! Thank you for this site.

    • Alan says:

Ken, we always try to tell the truth in life and here at TheFamily.com. With that statement, I just got an email from the wife of the writer of the Ford Motor company about the LDS Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She said the article was written almost 7 years ago so the numbers are WAY LOW for the LDS Church and membership. IT is SEVEN YEARS MORE GROWTH THAN WHAT WAS THE ARTICLE REPORTED! Here is a part of the letter she wrote to me:

      Hi Alan,
I thought you might be interested to know that the article you put on your Family.com site from the Ford Interfaith Network (and which so many of my LDS friends are now sharing via Facebook, linking to your site) was written by my husband in Feb. of 2004.  It has been circulating the internet ever since!  I just thought it might be helpful if you could somehow add the date to it so that people will know why some of the numbers are no longer correct (for example, the number of current church members).

My husband still writes an article monthly for the Ford Interfaith Network (and yes, he is LDS).  We’ve gotten a kick out of seeing how long and how much this particular article has circulated via the internet for the past almost 8 years!!  So glad that you’re getting such a positive response to it on your web site!

I’ve been an Osmond fan since I was a little girl when my mom would play your Christmas album in our home during the holidays (the one where Jay was the youngest and Donny wasn’t singing with you yet).  I’m 50 years old now but still love that album!

All my best to you and your family!!
      Sheri Drennan

I think we all ought to be grateful to Mr and Mrs. or as we Latter Day Saints say, Brother and Sister Drennen, and be glad that they write the truth. You know that they will write the truth about other Churches as well. I am approving as many of these as I can but there are MANY that I have not because of the volume we have received. Bless those who are of other faiths who are patient with us and yet we all hope and pray that they will believe us when we say, unlike the PRESS, that we are NOT a CULT, We are CHRISTIANS who believe in Jesus Christ and our Church bears His name. We marry not till death do you part but for Time and for All Eternity in The House of The Lord, or Temples. Temples have been on the earth since the beginning! Adam and Eve were married by God from the beginning. Abraham had Temples!
Families are Forever! Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” God’s plan enables families who live the gospel and receive the necessary ordinances to be together forever with Him.
We recognize truth and that other churches also have truth. We have the Book of Mormon which is ANOTHER WITNESS of Jesus Christ who appeared to the people on the American Continent after He was crucified. This Book contains many precious parts that were lost from the Bible over time. Yes, we believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.
We as members of the LDS faith love you and all of God’s children and pray that we can all be as One; of One Heart and One Mind, and come together especially during these most wicked and trying days we are living and prepare ourselves and our famiilies for the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who will return soon. Even the angels in heaven don’t know when He is coming but the signs of the times are upon us.
We accept Jesus Christ as our Redeemer and Savior and we are NOT ASHAMED of the Gospel of Jesus Christ or to be His followers! We pray that Brother Drennan will write an UPDATED article about us and continue to write the truth about all Religions and interfaith articles and we are so pleased that he and his wife Sheri are members and great examples of our Church. We hope that all of you will get to know us ‘Mormons’ or LDS members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and come and worship with us at our Churches where you will be MOST WELCOME! You can find one nearest to you by going here: http://mormon.org/worship/ It is going to take all of us working together to get out of this mess we are in and to prepare for the Lord’s return. With all my love, Alan Osmond. NOW, MORE APPROVALS ARE COMING!

  • Don Tarinelli says:

Thanks this is a great article! Very factual!

  • Chinenye Nwaogu says:

This is a very thrilling write, its so good reading the truth from and unbiased and independent source. This gospel has blessed my life and that of my family. I will count receiving the gospel as one of the greatest blessings I have in this life. It’s a partway to righteousness. In the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, you are thought how to have a personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith. I thank God for the privilege to receive the gospel, and invite all those outside the blessings of the restored gospel to humbly investigate the church. I testify that they will feel the spirit and truth of this blessed gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Colby says:

Really refreshing to read an accurate report. . Thank you, Ford!

  • Jenel says:

Something else is the fact that this church has always encouraged the uplifting and service to our fellowmen. It is a very generous and selfless organization that center’s it’s teachings around the life and service of Christ. The eternal benefits are real and the entire teachings of the church are consistent and just make sense!

  • Heather says:

I want to thank Ford Motor Company’s interfaith group for detailing key facts about our often misunderstood religion. More information can be found on the church’s official websites lds.org or mormon.org Thank you Ford. We’ve been a proud Ford family since 1973. And, on a totally unrelated note, we LOVE our 2011 Ford Flex!

  • klangfarben says:

Can someone direct me to the original source of this post? I can’t seem to find a URL at all that directs me to the “Ford Interfaith Group.” I just find oblique references to the organization through independent blogs.

  • Derby says:

Thank you to publish the truth about us.

  • After the comments and critiques of this genuinely remarkable release by FOMOCO gentle readers may be inclined to ask ” How can 14 million people believe that a genuine prophet of God has been raised up in these United States in modern times when the heavens have been silent for nearly 2000 years”.

May I remind them that scoffers and naysayers were present in abundance among those who followed Jesus and heard him teach in person.

Joseph Smith a man with only about three years formal education produced a book of profound religeous teaching and history in less than 100 days of actual writing time without any referral to libraries or religeous scholars. His only source was a book of metal plates he said was given to him by a Heavenly Messenger.

Was he a prophet? Is the church he founded a valid restoration of the original church established by the apostles who were ordained by Jesus himself.

Studying the scriptures and discussing the gospel with other truth seekers will not provide the conviction and certain testimony so desired by those seeking to know more about the LatterDay Saints. That testimony only comes from the priveledge available to every human being of receiving a personal revelation in response to prayer and fasting.

After studying the scripture with sincere and real intent in humble prayer ask the Lord if what you studied is true. Wait in quiet meditation for a feeling of confirmation and the Holy Spirit will let you know if it is true. Millions of people have applied this test to “The Book of Mormon” and received a testimony of its validity. And also of Joseph Smith’s Mission and other writings.

Sadly many religeous practitioners counsel their flock not to read, study or listen to anything from LDS sources and therefore many are led away from that that could bring them great happiness.

    • Brittany says:

You can’t believe wholeheartedly in the Bible AND the Book of Mormon. The Bible states this in regards to your “Heavenly Messenger”– “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” — Galations 1:8. You cannot believe in both. There are too many contradictions. The Enemy is the ruler of this world and you don’t give him enough credit to think that he could so easily lead someone astray like that??

      • Alan says:

Brittany, I have approved this only for others to give you their two cents worth. I have also deleted some responses who can’t see us Latter-day Saints be praised and have to use fowl and unprintable language to express it. I feel sorry for them and deleted them. But Brittany, we do teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many precious parts of the Bible were lost! Because our Lord knew this, he had other writers like in the Book of Mormon bring to light those missing parts. The Book of Mormon and the Bible go hand in hand regarding Jesus’s teachings as far as the Bible is translated correctly. God is NOT the author of confusion and HIS work to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man will not be frustrated! I leave the rest to our readers to comment! Alan

Alan first of all thank you and Ford for a great article. My response is actually to Brittany. I have never understood how the Bible could possibly be the only record of our heavenly father and his Son and people in the old testament alone there are numerous mentions of other books (Scriptures) that are not in the Bible and also what happened to all the people that were not carried away or killed when Israel was invaded where did they and their records and preachers go. Jesus did say that he had other flocks to tend to so where was he if not with them during those three days before the resurection. You do not have to belive the teachings of the church but show them the respect that they show the rest of the religious community and stop being dreagatory about them. Investigate, ask and pray with humility and faith and our heavenly father will give you an answer. With prayer and a humble heart I found the answer that I have been seeking. I have been a member of LDS since I was a teenager and I am proud to be, because Our Heavenly Father has blessed me greatly.
          Thank you Alan

          To Brittany
I think the best way to know whether The Bible and the Book of Mormon are both true and preach the word of God is to read them both, ponder what they say then most importantly, get down on your knees and pray! Ask Heavenly Father, in humility and real intent, whether what you have read were true. When you do that, I’m sure the TRUTH will be manifested to you!! I did that, so many millions of other people did that, and we have received confirmation!!!

      • Hayley says:

Brittany: Can I ask, led astray of what exactly? I would like to know your understanding of the Church and it’s teachings to understand what it is that you find so incompatible with the Bible.

Within the Bible, between books there are inconsistencies, between the old and the new there are conflicts. Much of the law of Moses is contradicted, reformed or replaced by Christ’s teachings in the new testament. Would it not make sense that if God had more for us later in time (Like BC to AD) it might also contain some differences?

Just wondering, as I have attended many different Christian churches in my life. I have questioned my own faith and all that I have believed and been raised to believe and as of yet have found nothing so in conflict as to create this feeling of anger/hate/concern that many other Christians feel towards LDS members.

I have never understood why there are so many who attack, or as is your case, worry so for the difference in gospel we have vs differences in other Christians faiths.

What is it exactly that we believe that is so incompatible with the Bible and the teachings of Christ?

      • David Knibbs says:

I actually find it kind of hard to believe in wholeheartedly in the bible and NOT the Book of Mormon, likewise I find it hard to believe in the Book of Mormon and not the Bible.

        Ezekiel 37:16-20:

16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:

17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.

18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.

20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

Might I ask what those ‘sticks’ are?

One has to remember what scriptures and ‘books’ were written on in the day of that writing.

What is the stick the stick written for Judah? What is the stick written for Joseph? What is the Stick of Ephraim?

What about joining them together into one stick so that they’re one in thine hand?

As for Galatians 1:8. The question I ask of you is which gospel is that scripture referring to?

        The gospel of Christ.

With that said, just what is the gospel of Christ?

As for the contradictions you cite, although I’ve a hard time seeing many of them.

The question I ask is does the Bible contradict the Book of Mormon, or does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible?

It sounds like a simple question, but one has to remember that one of those books have been translated a few times, and has been through the hands and whims of many men. The other has only been translated once.

I am so pleased to read this beautiful article about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am a proud member of this church. I am not perfect, but I work each day to be more Christ like and to love all of my brothers and sisters here upon this earth despite what they believe. I look for the good in them, and to me that is what matters most. We all make mistake and are not perfect, this is why we are here. It breaks my heart to see people tormented because of their beliefs or lack of them. I think what matters is who they are and the good and kind things they do for other, with out trying to be recognized for it.
I hope to read more article on other religions, as I wish to have respect for what they believe. Knowledges rids us of ignorance, and lack of ignorance opens doors and friendships.
Thank you again for your time and effort to educate.

Thank you. This was a sound representation of who we are AND how we strive to live as members of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

If this felt good to your heart, you can find out more from the church’s official website at http://www.lds.org. Type in a religious question or subject in the search menu, and you will be supplied many resources to search, ponder and pray about.

Despite life’s continual challenges, this gospel has led me to true inner peace. I like knowing who I am and why I am on this earth. I invite everyone to learn more about what we believe to be the Plan of Salvation. We are here on this earth for a purpose.

We are a covenant making people, and while we do make mistakes as we learn and grow, we continually strive to make and keep sacred covenants, and thus we strive to put off the natural man and progress to become all that our Savior would have us become. He helps us to change anger to love, fear to trust, selfishness to selflessness and helps us to develop charity and patience with ourselves and others.

Christ’s work and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of all men, meaning each and every soul who has ever lived or will ever live on this earth. ♥

Thanks Ford for publishing the TRUTH!

  • Stephen Cook says:

The reason I believe this article to be so accurate, is that it was probably written by my former Latter Day Saint pastor (Westland, MI Stake President) who is a member of Ford’s interfaith network. I worked at Ford as an Engineer and would love to come back to work at Ford again. Ford Motor Co. always treated me well.
In addition to the invention of the TV by Mr. Farnsworth, I know of a Mormon (Latter Day Saint) who is developing a flying car or AirCAR. Maybe someday Ford will manufactuer AirCARs too.

Buying Ford stock after the publication of this article isn’t a gamble at all. You’re gonna get some Great business in the coming years from members of this faith.

  • Did you get my earlier Comments? If so, where are they?

    • Alan says:

Paul, we sometimes get those that criticize and try to put down those things of value that families have a right to talk about. Religion is a very important part of life and is the reason we are here. When some try to put down others, we will NOT approve them. Sometimes same statements are stated so it is a matter of choice which our staff makes. We are open to all Christian religions who teach truth and valued principles. I hope that your comments Paul were such. If not, maybe that’s why they were not approved. Let us all remember what The Family is all about. The Family! God’s Plan of Life!

  • I can hardly put into words the profound joy I just had reading this. I am a lifetime Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Furthermore, I am a Convert. This Article is so very factual. As a Returned Missionary having served in Three Missions, the MTC in Provo, UT , La Missione Italiana di Roma, New York, NY , I am especially sensitive to precise accuracy in fact relating to Church History, and Docterines.

What also makes this Article so special is the Source. You see, we the Morris Family here in Kirkland, Washington are FORD People. We have Several Vehicles, Three at present. Only One is functioning at this Time. Yet we pray that Heavenly Father will bless us to install a re-built Transmission, and the Engine DX’d in our ’95 Windstar Van. Meanwhile our ’81 Mustang is our only set of wheels at this Time. We are fortunate that Ford has provided us with Transportation for these many Years.

My Father-in-law worked Forty Years at Pleasant Ford in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Both Parts, & Service management.

Thank you so much for this Article. I will share this with anyone with whom I am able.

That is a neat thing to publish articles about different faiths. So many people are afraid to do that because often the topic of religion is considered “taboo”, which is a shame because it’s also often what people feel the strongest about! As long as people share their ideas respectfully and are willing to listen to others’ ideas respectfully, much good can come of it! Thank you for a great article.

All these fact definitely prove that the Mormon religion is NOT a cult. How sad that this church is so mis-presented. They do nothing but good and help others. Great people and famlies with many accomplishments, however to know the whole truth watch the Mormon Puzzle. Remember Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

this is not posted out of codemnation but out of love. It would be must eaiser to say nothing. The truth will set you free

    • Alan says:

      Dear Ray,

Thank you for responding to the article that Ford put out and that I posted at http://thefamily.com and for your closing statement that “you do not condemn us but express your words out of love.”

You are right! It is easier to say nothing!

With that same LOVE, I respond.

First of all Ray, our church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The name, “Mormon” is a nickname.

We believe in Jesus Christ, we worship Jesus, We speak of Christ, We are NOT ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we follow His ways, we pattern our lives after Him, try to live all of His Commandments and covenants and raise our families ‘The Way’ Jesus would want.

The thing that is not understood by many is that Jesus visited several people around the world after He was crucified, before He ascended into Heaven, and showed them His nail scared hands and feet and told them that He was their Savior too; the there was “one fold and one shepherd”.

We have a record of when Jesus appeared to those in America and those recordings have been translated into the Book of Mormon. It contains Jesus’s words and many of those precious parts that were lost from the Bible during the days of Constantine. There are MORE of Jesus’s words that are available to us. WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT JESUS? I know what some will say where Paul said about adding to what was written in the Bible. Remember that much more WAS added after Paul spoke in Revelations.

Our Church has the same organization that existed in the primitive church, namely, Apostles, Prophets, Pastors. Teachers, evangelists, etc. We believe that these sacred records fulfill many prophecies in the Bible where it says that “in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall a matter, or my word, be established. (Matt. 18: 16; 2 Cor. 13: 1) We believe the Bible to be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. We have a living Prophet. We have Twelve Apostles. We have Temples. Elijah the Prophet came back and gave to Joseph Smith the same ‘keys’ that bind marriages and families together for all eternity that Abraham had.

The Family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.” God’s plan enables families who live the gospel and receive the necessary ordinances to be together forever with Him.

May I invite you to learn more about us at http://mormon.org and to get a FREE Book of Mormon and read for yourself with more of Jesus’s words and those that HE spoke through His prophets HERE: http://mormon.org/free-book-of-mormon/

I welcome your interest and questions as well anyone else who may read this.
We are living in perilous times. We MUST seek to know God’s will. We invite all to get to know us better by visiting a local group of LDS people near you. I invite you to attend and meet them. http://mormon.org/worship/

Thanks, Alan Osmond for The Family

      • Ginny says:

THANK YOU! As I have taught the New Testament this year, I have even a greater witness of the Book of Mormon and that Christ is the same today and the days that he lived on the earth.

      • Alan, have you been a Mission President? I am sincerely wiping the Tears from my Eyes ….

….. One Thing I would add to the fantastic words that you wrote….
…. This being, the fact that our Co-Creators made it possible that their Priesthood Authority to be passed on, and bestowed upon the chosen Joseph Smith, and his able scribe Oliver. This brings great comfort to me knowing with a rock-solid Testimony that we in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are not in any way frauds pretending to act in the Name of our Father in Heaven, and His only begotten Son Jesus the Christ, the spoken of Jehovah of the Old Testiment. I am quite honored to be able to hold that very same Priesthood, as it was bestowed upon me by the loving hands of my dear Dad. ( A Convert to the Church, and to me … a spiritual giant among all Men).

This I humbly testify in Jesus Christ’s name

        amen

      • Terri says:

Great reply, Alan!! (except that it was John that wrote Revelation) But seriously, So many people say these disparaging remarks about us, and claim to do so out of love. I don’t get it. I gotta say that your response truly was out of love.

        • Alan says:

Yes, and I knew that! Thanks for the reminder! Ha!

        • Richard says:

The book of revelations was even the first book John wrote. The same warning also appears in Deuteronomy 4:2.

          • Adriane says:

Yes, and in Deut. 4:2 Moses was saying the same thing that John was saying at the end of his revelation, i.e., do not add or take away from what I have told you here. In other words do not change what I have said/written. Obviously Moses wasn’t trying to say that no more could ever be added to what he just taught the people of Israel in that sermon, otherwise we couldn’t have anything past Duet. 4:2 in the Bible. The Book of Revelation was logically placed at the end of the Bible when it was finally assembled, because the Revelation pertains to the end times. John wrote the Gospel of John, that we find at the beginning of the New Testament, after he wrote the Book of Revelation. He received the Revelation while he was exiled on the Isle of Patmos – see Rev. 1:9. He wrote the Gospel of John after he was released from his exile. Bible scholars acknowledge these facts; it’s unfortunate that so many people misunderstand what John wrote, and won’t read the Book of Mormon which would bring anyone who loves Jesus Christ great joy just as the Bible does. I treasure both books.
My mother used to slam the door on the missionaries because of all the misinformation she’d heard. Thankfully she eventually accepted an invitation to church by an acquaintance, where she found things were not like what she’d heard. We investigated and learned more, and joined the church. The man who invited her never knew because he moved soon after taking us to church. Thank you Ken White, your invitation has made my life and my children’s lives so full of true joy.
Also, Isaiah’s prophecy in Isaiah 29 was fulfilled by the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. The Lord’s marvelous works continue to unfold.

      • Jake says:

I think so many people don’t quite understand how The Book of Mormon relates to the Bible. They quote things out of the Bible and think that it’s not part of LDS studies. Truth is, The Book of Mormon does not replace the bible, It adds to it. It is another testament of Jesus Christ, not the only testament.

    • Brittany says:

Ray!! Thank you so much for posting that! I was thinking of that portion in Galations when I read through this article. It is out of love that we tell our friends, family and neighbors that in hopes that God will open their eyes to HIS truth, not their church’s. God doesn’t care about all of the statistics and ‘good works’… He’s looking at your heart behind it all. Keep spreading the Good News and Truth, Ray!

      • Ammon says:

I would just like to bring up a few points, Brittany.

First, we don’t believe in our church, we believe in God.

Second, we don’t participate in service so that we look good. We do it to help others in need with sincerity.

There are a lot of comments here saying how nice it is to have information about our church that hasn’t been misconstrued in some way. That does not mean, however, that this article captures everything we believe and tells why we believe it. It just means we appreciate seeing an article about us that doesn’t claim we have horns on our heads.

I would invite you to learn more about what we believe by reading the Book of Mormon. You can get one for free here:

        http://mormon.org/free-book-of-mormon/

Or, if you don’t want to do that, go to lds.org or mormon.org and please, try to see beyond the organization of the church, and really look at what it is we believe.

      • Adriane says:

Brittany, I do believe you intentions are pure with what you wrote. Please understand that we are not preaching another gospel. Our teachings are Biblical! As a church we are just finishing another year of studying the New Testament in Sunday School, after studying the Old Testament last year. We read the King James Version, the first English translation of the Bible. Next year we will study the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Remember what Christ said in John 10:16 “And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” He loves everyone of every nation. He did visit the ancient inhabitants of the Americas after his resurrection and they recorded it. That is what the Book of Mormon is, another record testifying of the same Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
In Galatians referenced above, Paul said what he said to the Galatians because they had already started to fall away from the pure teachings of Jesus Christ, as he said “but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.” And yes, if some fallen angel were to teach you some other gospel or salvation thru anything/someone other than Jesus Christ, “let him be accursed” and don’t believe it! The scriptures don’t teach that there can be no more prophets or angelic ministrations, but that “by their fruits ye shall know them.” Goodness sakes, the Book of Acts is chock full of continuing revelation and angelic ministrations to the Apostles and others who were trying to spread the gospel in its purity. Peter received the revelation to begin taking the gospel to all people, no longer just the House of Israel, and he obeyed even though it was strange to him. I am a convert to the church and know the Bible and the Book of Mormon are the word of God. The word of God is a lamp to my feet, an anchor to my soul, and keeps my faith in Christ burning brightly. Please read it for yourself, you will feel the witness of the Holy Spirit and know for yourself that it testifies of the same Jesus Christ. If you are reluctant to because of what John wrote at the end of Revelation, see my other post too. With Love, Adriane

    • Jessica R. says:

      Remember,

In Matthew 24:5 & Mark 13:6 “For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”

Angels, Messengers and all sorts of Prophets & false Christs & Gospels can preach something truly convincing. Especially when they use Christs name and good works that make you feel good and cozy inside. MAKE sure you know everything about this gospel or prophet before you decide its “truth”

1 John 4:1 “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ”

      Jeremiah 17:5
This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

The bible is the Word of God…

2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;”

Friends we need to go to God and pray for the truth and for wisdom…

      Jeremiah 33:3
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
God uses his Word to communicate with us.
      John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
the Word is living truth and it will teach you unbelievable things.

Remember the heart is the most deceitful thing. We can get a ‘burning in the bosom,’ But this could be from our own desires…

      God says in Jeremiah 17:9
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

We must WORK & PRAY for TRUTH. Do research & find the Truth.

The Bible is all you need, & the TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE.

      God Bless
      -Jessica

      • Alan says:

Friends, I approved this response from Jessica R. because I want you to DO AS SHE HAS ASKED for you to ask the Lord if the things the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says is true or not! Now we have not talked much doctrine here but I encourage you to do as James said in James 1:5 of the Bible: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” YES! Also read the Book of Mormon and ask the same of God and it shall be given to you! I PROMISE! Alan

      • Mark says:

We worship God the Eternal Father and His Beloved Son Jesus Christ. He is the Redeemer and Saviour of the World, we look to him for our salvation, there is no other name under Heaven than that of Jesus Christ that will bring us salvation.

We do however attend church often, but as has been said, the church is not what we worship. We go to church to keep the commandment of Jesus when he said that we should meet together often to teach one another, strengthen each other in Christ and most importantly to remember his atoning sacrifice he made on our behalf by taking the sacrament each Sunday.

In this day and age, we all need strengthening in Christ, regardless of our particular choice of church we attend. As a latter day saint, I thank all Christians of what ever denomination who are striving to follow Him and make the world a better place by doing so. May God bless you all in your efforts.

      Ray,
That scripture you read is absolutely true. If an ANGEL, even an angel of “light” were to come and preach ANOTHER gospel, most definitely it would be corrupt. There are two inconsistencies with that regarding the Church (in caps).
Number one, it was not an angel who first appeared to Joseph Smith. It was God the Father and His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. I would be hard pressed to find a Christian who would consider either of those an “angel”.
Number two, is that they would preach “another gospel”. I have read the New Testament over and spent more hours studding it than I can count, and I have never found a discrepancy in our doctrine with that book. I could list out hundreds concerning other faiths, but that would be to no avail.
I appreciate what you said about saying that out of love, for many do not. I hope you read this and take into consideration your misunderstanding of that verse (I misunderstood it as well for quite some time).
As you said, “The truth will set you free”

  • Jeannette Scott says:

There is one inaccuracy here when in anybody’s World did Philo Farnsworth(never heard of him) invent TV? That belongs to John Logie Baird & the BBC.

      • cland says:

“The earliest U.S. patent for an all-electronic television system was granted in 1927 to a young Philo T. Farnsworth, who transmitted a picture of a U.S. dollar sign using his so-called image dissector tube in the laboratories of the Philadelphia Storage Battery Company (Philco).”

“John Logie Baird –inventor of the world’s first practical, publicly demonstrated television system”

~ Alan is correct, Farnsworth invented the television–Baird made television practical for public use.

    • Kelsi says:

The first TVs, probably created by names you would recognize, were lights and mirrors on spinning disks and created very poor resolution. Philo T. Farnsworth made the first fully electric television. If you google “television inventor” his name pops up in every article.

    • Nicole says:

“There were two other inventors (besides John Logie Baird) who have a claim on the “first,” or at least on very early television: Philo T. Farnsworth and Charles Francis Jenkins. If one defines television as the transmission of any sort of moving image — even a silhouette — by wire or wireless, Jenkins is only a few months behind Baird, and Farnsworth’s out of the running. If you define it as the transmission of an image made from reflected light, Baird stands alone. If, on the other hand, you define it as the invention of a fully electronic system for the transmission of images — which, after all, was to be the ultimate mode of transmission for the rest of the twentieth century, then Farnsworth stands alone.”

So either could be right depending on what your are defining as the first television.

    • L J Woodland says:

I have visited the Philo Farnsworth museum at Rigby, Idaho where he grew up as a farm boy. On display there are some of his first big and complicated vacuum tubes that created a raster pattern on a screen. Pieces of an image could be delivered to each point in the raster matrix. That was the beginning of television.

  • Lucy Watson says:

Just heard of this article…Thank you for the integrity of telling such truthfulness.

My next car will probably be a Ford!

  • I KNEW there was a reason we always buy Ford’s. :)
Thanks for printing the facts about our religion. Too often people get down the wrong “facts”.

    • I totally agree with you, sister. We love fords also. I had to convert my husband though,to Fords. He really believes in them now, well before the gov. took them over! We’ll see how it goes?

  • Eva Grote says:

This really helped me understand more about the Morman Faith. Thanks for sharing this interesting information.

    • Ashley Scott says:

There are two incredible young people that are aching to come and visit you and share more about this wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ. They are passionate about this and get so excited to share it with others. If I can offer any advice at all, I plead with you to seek, search, and find these two people with little black tags that guaranteed are searching for you. Pray and plead with the Lord in the way that you know how and he will send them to you, I promise! Look online at Mormon.org and read more, access and request The Book of Mormon that is another testament of Jesus Christ and teaches us in a powerful way how we can return to live with him. There is a place where you can request to have the missionaries come and visit you. I am so excited for you; I cannot imagine my life without the Gospel and all of the wonderful things it has taught me. It has shaped me and molded me into a better person. Because of all of this, I truly know I am a daughter of God and he loves me, he has a plan for me, and wants me to follow him so that I can return and live with him. Seriously, do this. You will not regret it. Pray to be led to what is right and that you will recognize it when you see it. The Lord loves you and wants you to be happy…and this is happiness….not momentary satisfaction, but an eternal bliss that is just awaiting you!
      With Love!

I found this to be truthful and accurate (as of the Dec 07 date) and I really appreciate the Ford company in printing this. I think that as citizens and fellow men we should spend more time focusing on the good things that people and organizations are doing and less on the doomsday side of things. Thank you again.
